Say Shaq and Jordan are both coming out of college and going into the draft. Who would you draft if you had the #1 pick? THis is based on how good they where in the NBA.

I picked Shaq. I think he dominates the game more than Jordan. If I had Shaq I would give him the ball every time. He would shot more than A.I. and would score 30-40ppg every season. I think I could win more Championships with Shaq, even though in real life MJ won 3 more(so far).

Definitely Jordan. Shaq's desire to win doesn't seem to be all that great.

    SHAQ!!!

He is 370 pounds. He owns everyone. Nobody can stop him. He is a big man. He is good to build around. He is tall. He has an advantage. Who would you rather draft? Yao Ming or Jay Williams? Hakeem or MJ? Hakeem! Shaq is big. He has agility and at least some skills. I would draft him. Tim Duncan or Allen Iverson? Tim Duncan! Tracy McGrady or Shaq? Shaq! Kobe Bryant or Dirk Nowitzki? NOWITZKI! Always get the big man...unless he is Shawn Bradley or Kelvin Cato...I would even take Raef Lafrentz over Doug Christie...

This thread is going to run into the sam problem that the Yao/Hakeem thread ran into and that is, the interpretation of the question.

    RF85,

I assume we are not to base this on what they had accomplished in the NBA, but rather, in college as amateurs.

If you had the 1st pick, would you want a fresh out of college MJ or fresh out of college Shaq??? Thats how I take the poll question.

For the same reason that Hakeem was picked over MJ, I would pick Shaq over MJ too. Good big man usually beats a good little man.

Oh ok. Yeah, I'd definitely take the 300 pound big man. But it would be the wrong choice. :)

This is based on how good they where in their careers. Just think of it right now, would you rather have MJ or Shaq?

So, if we could prognosticate how they would do in their careers, I would pick Jordan.. However, if I was just drafting on potential out of college, I agree with the other guys. I'd have to pick Shaq because Center is the toughest position to get quality players at so you have to jump on an opportunity to pick a franchise player..

On the understanding that we're choosing on the basis of how good they were in the NBA, I'd go with Shaq. MJ may have all the skill and drive, but I think he was also lucky to land where he did. Shaq and all very talented big men can carry just about any team into contention. Good guards can't do that nearly as well.

Depends on what I have on my team.
    Today's Rockets?

MJ - Mike is a bigger up grade from Mobely
than shaq is an upgrade from Yao

    Rockets PRE YAO - shaq

Steve Cuttion Shaq > Steve, Cat and MJ

    Rocket River
depends on what ya got in place already

I don't see how anyone could pick Shaq. We already know that Jordan was the best ever. Why would you not pick the best ever?

Was Patrick Ewing the best center Jordan ever had to face in the playoffs?

Jordan was definitely one of the most successful and popular players ever, but I'm not sure he was the greatest of all time. Put the Lakers of a couple years ago against the Prime Bulls and I bet you'd have a dogfight...

    I pick Shaq.

    Definitely Jordan.

    Here's some reasons:
    1. Shaq is not a complete player
    2. Shaq ball is ugly, MJ ball is much more entertaining
    3. Jordan will his team to win, Shaq just folded to the Spurs
    4. Free throws

    Just think about it:
Jordan's bulls vs. Shaq's lakers. Jordan's bulls win hands down.

Jordan's Bulls have never had to compete against a dominant center outside of Pat Ewing. The Rockets always gave the Bulls fits, so it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to think that the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe would fair just as well.

Not only is Jordan not the best player ever, it is debatabel that he is the best guard ever. He is probably the best shooting guard ever, but not by a huge margin over Dr. J.

Definitely Shaq. Nobody can stop him. Jordan can be stopped. Put 2 guys on him all the time he won't be effective. Put 2 guys on Shaq he will still run them over...
