Shaq has speed and power; Yao has more variety of skills. Many times last night, they scored over each other. I can remember Shaq dunked over Yao 2-3 times? and Yao had 1) a jumper face up shaq 2) a hook shot (that curve is unbelieveable) 3) a move similar to Hakeem
Yeah watch the game. Shaq dunked a bit, but never over Yao. As much as I hate Shaq, I agree with him that the media should stop hyping it up as Yao/Shaq III etc, cause while Shaq does guard Yao, Yao doesn't guard Shaq and it was mostly Cato and someone else guarding Shaq.
Shaq has the power that can push you inside, but I think Yao definitely can guard him one on one. Shaq is all power. I think the media hype is justified because Shaq can't do much out there with Yao guarding him, even one on one. SHaq is just scared of being embarrassed cuz he knows Yao could embarrass him one day. So, he always never tend to give Yao credit and play it down everytime. Yao is not much power player, but more of a Duncan fitness player.
nobody can guard shaq one on one, maybe he can stop him i or maybe 2 plays, but if you trie to guardshaq one on one, you will be destroyed. I believe there are player who have more basketbal skills then shaq does, but shaq is so strong and so big and still so athletic. yao cannot gaurd him. yao is not strong enough he can never keep shaq out of the paint. i also think shaq cannot guard yao one on one. in basketbal a offensive player always has the advantage over his defender
True. Even Yao said that many times. He said, "I'm not stupid," when asked about guarding Shaq one on one. The quadruple teams worked on Shaq. However, when Malone comes back, it will be another story.
No one can guard Shaq 1-on-1. No one can guard Yao 1-on-1, EXCEPT for Yao In Shaq/Yao IV, I like to see Yao using more of those ball fakes instead of simple move. Yao have ZERO success against Shaq using simple hook or power move.
Somebody may want to tell people like Jeff Foster that... they'd be offended. When Yao can back somebody down with his 300+ lbs of weight, then we can talk about nobody being able to defend him.
ok bad joke... Yao is his own worst enemy (not be aggressive, not pushing small guys out of the way, not using that 300lbs body...)
Nap! He went around Yao from baseline, and dunked. There was no one between him and the hoop. --daoshi
Yao did guard Shaq before Yao got into foul trouble. That was of course mainly in the first quarter; and Shaq could not do anything. He tried his usual ass bump to back into the basket; but Yao did not move. Few poster mentioned here Yao actually has a very strong lower part of his body. It is not easy to move him if he is in position. Yao is vulnerable when he is moving because of his weaker upper body. In any case, Shaq did not gain any advantage in this game. At best, it was a tie.
Yao always had success against most of the defenders, includes Shaq, in the early stage of the game. Remember the Blazers game, where he scored 8 or 10 in a row over Davis? His problem is his stamina, which always holds back in the late part of the game. Another problem is the Rockets adjustment as a team. There have been quite a few games where the Rockets executed very well with inside-out in the first qtr, came out with a big led, but couldn't adjust when the opponent team made adjustment. One reason is the coaching, the other reason was the players went away from the plan, felt they could play some street ball with a big lead. --daoshi
