Has anyone else heard of this girl or listened to any of her music? She has an album out right now called "Loud Guitars, Big Suspicions." It is a pretty good rock/blues album. What is more amazing is that it is a good rock/blues album with a female lead vocalist. Call me sexist, but I never thought there would be another band with a female lead vocalist that I would like outside of Heart. But Shannon Curfman pulls it off perfectly.

So, that's great, you say. A female musician that plays rock/blues and is good at it. Well, that is not all. This girl is only 16 or 17 at this time. She hasn't graduated high school yet! This to me is amazing. She can play the guitar with feeling and skill, she has a voice that was made for blues, and she wrote 7 of the 11 songs on Loud Guitars... album. This girl is bursting with musical talent, and she is not using it to create more pop culture, Britney Spears, look at my breasts and try not to listen to my voice BS crap music. She is playing blues, and that is honorable in and of itself, since it is far from among the most popular type of music listened to these days. I have the CD. I have seen her on the cover, and she is not a bad looking girl. It would not surprise me in the slightest if some record company ass had not already approached her about becoming the next teen pop star. She already has a better voice than Britney Spears could ever hope for. But Shannon rocks on, and I can't help but have a huge amount of respect for that.

The Loud Guitars... album came out in 1999, so she hasn't put out any new music in a while, but keep in mind that she is doing homework and taking tests and going on dates and doing all the other things teenagers do in high school. In between all this stuff, she is writing new music. This girl has a love for the blues. I love that about her.

For an example of her work, go check out the song "Playing with Fire." It rocks, and is about famous rock and blues guitarists like Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy. Also, here is an interview of her by Mars Music.

So, any blues fans out there a fan of her work? Anyone else have any opinions of this young talent? The only thing I worry about with regards to her is the early success she is going to enjoy as a result of her talent. The old addage "sex, drugs and rock n' roll" has ruined many other careers of talented musicians, and she is only 17, so I think she is even more susceptible to these temptations. I hope she walks the straight line, because if she does, she could be one of the best. I will be following her music career very carefully.

    Thoughts?

Raven, I heard of her before I heard her. I think I've only heard one track and thought it was okay, but nothing special. I heard she took inspiration from Johnny Lang and what he was able to accomplish at such a young age. I would like to hear the entire album. There aren't many female leads that I like either... Sheryl Crow, Natalie Merchant, Sara McGlaughlin. I will butcher the spelling on this last name, but you may like Susan Tedeschdi. Maybe Bob Finn will see this and tell you how it's really spelled.

    Her face is gorgeous.

Did y'all see the girl who sang the anthem at the Warriors/Rockets game? She was fine.

I remember seeing a story about her a while back on the nightly news. She basically moved to the twin cities so she could follow in Johnny Lang's footsteps. He was "discovered" there and signed to a record deal. She sounds more like Bonnie Raitt than Janis (to me anyway). Here's a link of her playing acoustic (Robert Johnson song) version of Malted Milk. Not bad at all.
