If ever I head a dollar when I heard "battier is one of the most underrated players in the league"

What's new? I don't think he is underrated just because how many people actually recgonise he is underrated.

This has to be the most inaccurate description of a professional athlete I have read in my entire life.

Again...Rosen says Battier can do those things but doesn't do it often because he doesn't receive many opportunities to do so

He is underrated because your average basketball fan only looks at points. For those that appreciate the nuances of basketball, he is fun to watch.

Battier may be the worst SF in the league when it comes to dribbling and putting the ball on the floor.

On top of that, he may have the slowest 1st step of any SF in the league. Even if he could dribble, this would prevent him from being effective at driving to the basket the way Rosen describes. On the extremely rare occasion that he does try to attack the basket, it looks like he's in slow motion.

Battier can post up as well as Shaq? WTF?!?

Battier has a difficult time posting up midgets. When he shoots those awkward looking jump hooks, he barely leaves the ground and isn't even looking at the basket when he releases the ball. Yes, he can shoot those with both hands. I'll give him that.

And when was the last time you saw Battier shoot a turnaround jump shot?

95% of Battier's shots are spot up 3s. He struggles mightily just to shoot off the dribble, not to mention turnarounds or fadeaways.

If you are going to argue that Battier is underrated, it's certainly not becaue of the reasons I highlighted in my previous post.

No he said Battier can seal his man as well as Shaq. Its his teammates who haven't been looking for him when he does have solid position down low. And no he's not the slowest small forward in the league, ever heard of Luke Walton and Vlad Radmanovic? Also more often that not Battier has a size mismatch on him but the Rockets don't look to take advantage. That is understandable since they have better options such as Yao, Tmac and Ron but maybe they should post Battier up and see what he can do

To avoid getting into a long, drawn out debate with some of the more sensitive members here, I'll refrain from commenting on the premise of the article, but I just want to add that I stopped reading at this point:

Watching Shane Battier attempt to dribble a basketball with his left hand (it's happened a few times over the past 3 years), when he kind of throws the ball ahead of him is like those old videos where Hakeem is patting at the ball on breakaway fastbreaks.

LMAO. Just a tad bit exaggerated. I like Battier and think he's a great role player, but I wonder how much he paid this guy to write this article.

Hakeem's patting was more reliable than Shane's dribble. :D

I like Shane Battier. He's one of those maximizing your potential players. I wish all the Rockets were similar to him in that respect.
