On the way to work this morning I heard Lance Zeurlien of 610AM make the following comments (Paraphrased)

Spoke to a friend who is close to Shandon - Shandon is extremely unhappy with the system, especially having to spot up and wait on the 3 point line - not his game at all. Lance insinuated that unless a rules change (ie zone) forced Rudy to implement a differed offense, he would opt out of his final year.

I guess none of that is really new, but the momentum is gathering....

So, exactly when has Shandon been happy in his career. Is he saying he misses spotting up and waiting on the 3 pt line for Stockton to pass him the ball?

Ha ha heyp...good point. Maybe Rudy should design some iso plays for Shan...that could be amusing.

Or, he can do the inside-out game with Shan taking Dream's place in the block. Dream could launch 3's.

Incidentally, why do people think Shan is so good at post up? Whenever I have seen him do it, he has not been that great.

Maybe Shan should only go to the half court line on defense...that way, if the opponents play breaks down, he can get the outlet and drive to the basket (with no one in front of him) - his lone offensive weapon.

Shandon is a little impatient, I think. Hasn't Rudy been constructing up-tempo ever since we got Francis. I remember distinctly Barkley, Rudy and Dream talk fastbreaking the previous camp.

What? are we supposed to just set a metronome on the floor and demand up-tempo fastbreaks like Rick Pitino or something.

Hey Shandon, I'm so sorry we had no center or PF last year to help start the tempo, and no center the first half of this year, or no point guard like Jason Kidd or Magic who forces the tempo because he can do it in his sleep.

Hey Shandon, have some freaking patience man, and take a leadership role ... clearly Rudy has been asking for more uptempo. Show us how it is done then.

Or do you just want to wait around for Stern to reinvent the league for you so Nolen Richardson will become your coach and recruit five 6-7 thoroughbreds who can run AND shoot. And when you do make it off the bench for no other reason than Nolen needs 10 horses to run his uptempo, Nolen is still going to park you on the 3 point line in the half court sets.

hp, that is wrong - Shandon was never a spot up shooter in Utah. He played the 2 and could post up his defender. In Houston;
a) He plays against taller 3s
b) He rarely gets the ball anywhere ecxcept on the perimeter

Rimbaud - he is not particularly good at the post up, but it is more of a strength for him than being planted at the three point line. Also note my comment a). Its hard to be an effective post player if your defender is 6 inches taller than you.

He being asked to play out of position in an offense that does not suit him. That would make me unhappy as well

Davo, first, I wouldn't call his post-ups...up-tempo. And how many post-ups did he get against Drexler and Jordan in the playoffs anyhow. I can see the likes of Del Negro and Hersey Hawkins...but, I think most of his post ups were always mismatch issues, not systemic.

I am referring to Utah's system. Their system is a PNR flex. He role in the systemic plays is to spot up for a flex pass, just like Hornacheck. He didn't start, and they liked him to do some different things in his non-starting role. But as a starter, he knew he would be a spotter, so that's why he left. Am I not remembering his complaints correctly.

SSo, based on Shandon's free agent demands, I decided to break down each opportunity for him, to help him out, in case zones don't get implemented, and he exercises his option.

verse, please edit where you see fit.

Team Uptempo Starter Complains

Toronto N Shandon Y
Indiana Y Reggie Y
Pistons N Shandon Y
Atlanta (i) Terry Y
Chicago N Mercer Y

Note:

Dallas: don't say it. Finley is SG now that they have Howard.
Vanco: can we say maybe that Shandon
thinks he's Michael Dickerson.
Kings: Until Shandon stops complaining in his career,
I give the nod to the other Shandon, in Christie.
Phoenix: The Mobley factor in Delk would haunt Shandon,
and he couldn't bare sitting in the 4th again.
Seattle: Payton would bean him the first time
Shandon waves for a Low post entry.
Clippers: Might be a good fit, but the Clippers platoon
Shandon's position, so he complains for sure on 15 mpg.
Boston: Ooops...too late, your uptempo master Rick Pitino
couldn't make it work there, cause he could have used you.
Nets: Shandon likes Marbury?? Does anyone not complain on that team?
Wizards: I can just see it? Jordan coming onto the gym
to test his new SG's offensive skills! lol!
Hornets: Start Baron Davis and David Wesley.
Toronto: McGrady left didn't he?
Pistons: Can you say weakside, spot up?
Atlanta: Shandon is from Georgia, right?

So, it looks like if I were Shandon's agent I'm facing 8 starting positions in the league besides Houston. Shandon can find something he likes in one of them, Minnesota. Damn, this is going to be a tough sell. Maybe I should just calm down Shandon and convince him to be more patient with his current Point Guard, and help the offense mature, rather than complain.

heyp,

Shandon wouldn't start in Atlanta. Jason Terry is killer there and would not be moved back to point to allow Shandon to start. Kukoc has the 3....Dermarr has backup...Shan would be screwed and unhappy.

I bet he'd be happy in Minnesota w/ Terrell.

You guys are missing the biggest point. He's going to be out! There's no responsibility to overpay him b/c of that bs 'smaller pay' he took. Yee hoo!

Now draft a big big guard/SF or trade for SAR (so we'll have a rebounder between the 3 and 4) and we're set!!!

No overpaying Shandon! This summer rules and it's not even 04/17 yet!!!

you're just happy, because you think you are going to win the bet. And you have not even worked out the Shandon loop-hole issue with our official, Mango, yet.

btw: I'm definitely down with the NO OVERPAYING complainers thingy. Especially when he blames the system on two coaches in a row.

Yeah, just Minny.

Also, don't know what the I's are for Denver (incomplete?), but they already overpaid for a "defensive" non-offensive 2...Abdul-Wahad. So, no way Denver would want Shan.

(i) is inconclusive, for lack of enough league pass Intelligence on my part.

the bet hp! I almost forgot! lol.

Unfortunately the league will probably only notice this time. This will be the second time that a FA swingman came in and became disenchanted with Rudy's system. Hopefully we get a voucher for Pippen, since HE SUCKED.

But if I hear Pippen remotely say "see" over this summer. I might have to "take a trip to Hood". [IMG]

Oh yeah little Francis! I'll put it this way, if we win the top 3 pick, screw the hs potential... draft Battier.

Battier. Battier. Battier.

Oh, so now Shandon is a whiny b**** too. When has he ever complained this season? Name one instance where Shandon has complained. Or maybe you don't need facts to attack someone? Big surprise.

Shandon never complained about the system in Utah. He wanted to start, and he didn't like the city. Nothing to do with the system. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, please.
