Every report that I've seen says that resigning Shandon is a top priority, but why? With the additions of Griffin and Morris, and since it looks like Langhi will be able to make the transition to the 2, why should we overpay for a "defensive specialist?" ------------------
LOL you guys are funny. Although he might not be able to stop guys like KB and VC he can at least keep up with them. I like the idea of playing DL and TM at SG but I really don't think they could play there consistently for 20 mins. SA is a real SG and besides Cat we don't have any one else that is a SG. SA can fill in at SG with his 6'6 size and ball handling skills if anyone's not healthy, Wizard is just to chubby at 6'8, 230. I like him to stay but I just don't think we have the room and I don't think he would be happy coming off the bench for 20 mins a night. Also I don't know how he's going to fit-in in the following seasons with less playing time. ------------------
Just a guess, but the fact that he is the only player on our team to start all 82 games for us 2 years in a row, and that he's young, and the only guy on the team outside of Hakeem that has any meaningful playoff experience, all might have something to do with it. Teams don't often just discard those kinds of players. Griffin hasn't won a starting job yet. Morris is a second round pick -- he may not even make the team. Even without Shandon, he's still got Walt, Langhi, and Griffin ahead of him. Why do you think Langhi is all of a sudden going to play the two? Because of a couple of summer league games? Also, if the Rockets want to keep their reputation as such a loyal organization, they will sign Anderson to a pretty nice deal. If they don't, I wouldn't hold your breath on any other free agents coming to Houston to play for exceptions in the future. ------------------ "I guess that's YOUR theory"
Cat did the majority of the defensive work on Vince Carter. Shandon isn't a one man team. The people ripping on him for his defensive effort need to realize, he can't stop 5 guys on the court and our team defense was an absolute JOKE last year! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
RocksMill...I agree Shandon is an above-average defender and we don't have many of those on this team...it's just that I hope we don't have to pay through the nose to keep him...incidentally, the game I was referring to w/ Vince was from 2 seasons ago and yes, Mobley did guard him most of the game, but not on that last play! ------------------
The Rockets did promise to take care of him, so they probably will sign him to a deal bigger than what he would get on the open market. However, that does not mean he is going to be on this team any longer. I'm betting if a S&T isn't already in the works, the Rockets are just biding their time until they are able to trade Shandon to a team that fits his style better. I would not be at all surprised if he sits on the bench until Nov. or Dec., then gets moved (hopefully with Cato). ------------------
But he did not earn all 82 starts each year -- I think "Shandon Doherty Gets To Start" was in his contract right next to "Shall never be passed to either". But I like SA, he's a Rocket if there ever was one. Not like Hakeem, that friggin Mountie. cbfc ------------------ Join the Chucky Brown Fan Club
I'm starting to think that we may be able to sign Shandon cheaper than we thought. I haven't heard of any team really interested in him. Detroit, although under the cap, has not mentioned his name, and the Bulls already have Mercer. Basically no team will offer more than part or all of their $4.5 million exception. Fegan may have to bite the bullet and take our early bird offer. Also, Anderson may end up like Robert Horry- disappearing act during the regular season, then tears it up in the playoffs. Remember when he kicked our asses every year in the playoffs? Rudy and teammates like the guy. Maybe he'll step it up next year. Everyone knows Griffin isn't ready for more than 15-20 min/game next year anyways. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Olajuwon got dunked on by a 6'3" guard named Kevin Johnson when Dream was in his prime. Does that make him a lousy defender? I like Anderson, and he's a lot better than George Lynch is for the 76ers.
OMG, you have got to be kidding! lynch is a tough rebounder, defender, and offensively is solid w/the midrange jumper. he doesn't b**** about being "frozen out" of the offense, he doesn't b**** about the offense, he doesn't jack up ridiculous air balls and condominium builders from 3 point range, and he doesn't have delusions of grandeur. ------------------ shandn has no "o". Here we go again ------------------ I stole your money and I did your daughter at Texas A&M University
I disagree Verse... Shandn does have an 'o', not to mention an 'e' as well....shanDONE ------------------
Who said overpay? I don't see CD giving any kind of earth shattering contract to Shandon with his stock as low as it is. You offer what is worth & use what you have...
U guys must be kidding - Shandon is an AWESOME defensive stopper....he's definitely worth at least $7M per. Remember when he even locked up All-Star Vince Carter that one time and kept him from shooting a 3pt shot to win the game by 3. I mean we were so fortunate he wisely let Vince drive the lane for the game buzzer dunk so that we only lost by 2 ------------------
Pippendagimp....sorry to burst your bubble but the game your refering to Mobley was covering Carter at the end of the game when Vince went baseline and Dream, a step slower these days, got there late and Vince dunked for the win.... Thats how I remember it... That was right after Cat made a great move to tie the game... Shandon is needed but at this point for how much since Dream wants all the damn money!!! ------------------
