Despite being a league with a salary cap, big market teams and small market teams simply live in different worlds. They aren't attracting another superstar to Milwaukee, they're lucky if they keep Giannis much longer. Certainly an overpay for him , but he is a great player and they have to keep hold of what window they have.
So did Harden. Contracts mean nothing for superstars, they force their way out whenever they feel like.
FWIW and iirc, on Redick's podcast, Durant said the best defender he's played against is Jrue Holiday, and Redick didn't disagree. For all this talk about DPoY being a revolving door of Draymond / Gobert / Giannis, maybe stats aren't everything when it comes to who should be paid the big bucks. On the surface, Holiday's stats don't scream "max!" or even "near max!" In addition to his defense, he's probably a great locker room guy, too.
30/120 seems like it would have been more than really good for him. 40 mill under today's cap should be reserved for the top 20 guys (IMO). Jrue's more like a top 40/50 guy Jrue is having a career year, but he's 30 and has milage. If he falls to his means and ages as expected, his contract is going to be very rough in the last 2 season (45 per at 33/34).
Jrue is having the best year of his career and the Bucks couldn’t afford to lose him after giving up so much to get him...Jrue had all the leverage
That is true. MIL is probably hoping Holiday ages gracefully like Lowry and CP3, and less like Rondo or even Wall (even though Wall is only 30).
Giannis will always have James Harden Nightmares. Giannis picking on Harden as a Bully. Giannis will have a Taste of his own Medicine. Fake Nike 2x MVP James Harden Deserved Those 2 MVPs
An NBA contract extension means little as far as a player remaining with a team long term. All is does is allow a player to get security in case or horrendous injury and the team in turn gets a guarantee that is a player asks to be traded, that they will be compensated for moving the player. This is all it has meant for years, and why I raise an eyebrow when a fan says “but he signed an extension”.
I find myself rooting against the bucks just cause of giannis and the writers robbing harden of his well deserved MVPs
It would be ironic if Jrue beats 76ers in the playoffs after they let him go to in order tank for 5 years straight
We're going to be entering a time pretty soon where every star is going to be a billionaire which is kind of holy **** unreal. Predicting the NBA’s next TV rights deal, and the two sports gaining momentum despite the pandemic https://theathletic.com/2478924/2021/03/26/predicting-the-nbas-next-tv-rights-deal-and-the-two-sports-gaining-momentum-despite-the-pandemic/#:~:text=According to a CNBC report, deal that started in 2016.
Stupid comment. Talking trash about a guy that donated $5M of his salary last season to various causes.
Lolol wtf is happening here if he gets 40mil per then what is Lebron worth? How’s Milwaukee paying anyone after this year. I guess it’s the same situation bargain bin hunting w the rockets and harden + Cp3/Westbrook
It wouldn't be ironic because Jrue wasn't the reason why they couldn't compete for a title way back when, and Jrue won't be the primary reason why MIL beats PHI if it ever gets to that point. Irony would be if Kawhi's Raptors beat the Spurs in the Finals because the Spurs decided to ship Kawhi to a place where they thought he'd never succeed, in order to spite him.
