I have noticed a few people on the right these days want to suggest we need to end isolation and let the disease run out in order to save the economy. So basically this the cure is worse than the disease. False. This disease seems under control but it can easily get out of control. When hospitals are full then they have to throw people into makeshift camps, and then the bodies will pile up. You will see real panic and you will see a break down in society when the bodies pile up. These idiots are just like the morons who out hanging out and partying in Florida. They don't see death so they can't even use their brains to imagine it. Or they just want people to die. Those are the two options really. So they suggest, basically, sacrifice our elderly and those with chronic illnesses to save the economy. WHAT? How is that a solution? This is Trump's problem and the Republicans and their mouth pieces who latched on to this **** policy. This is about their money, make no mistake. They are all OK with death piling up on our doorsteps and in our homes if they can just get the economy going again so their stock market casino pays out some more. edit: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/pub...Z-hM1ifZDnUNbpBssXFiDoHIpMRkK4qQ-lSoRPArZaxQQ
I think this view underestimates the economic disruption (and political disruption) that will come with a massive failure of the hospital system and people dying in their homes. Even if it wasn't morally objectionable, I think it's naive even as economic policy. EDIT: The other shameful thing I think we're starting to see are people trying to advance their other interests on the back of the corona response. Texas deeming abortions to be non-essential, for example. Saw a trade group today asking that their tax credits be converted into cash subsidies -- I know your industry is hurting, but so is everyone else's.
Top House Republican: 'There will be no normally functioning economy if our hospitals are overwhelmed https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/24/politics/liz-cheney-trump-coronavirus-tweet/index.html Fix this impending disaster of an overwhelmed healthcare system. Then focus on opening up the country.
