I think he is a VERY capable PG. and Rajon Rondo of the Rockets if not even better. anyone reckon we should trade up for him? A rebuilding team can even build their whole team around him, he is that good. what do you think we should offer for the other team to want to accept the offer? Maybe... Our Pick at 25 Battier for OJ Mayo?

Maybe it is too early, but I just have the hunch that this guy may end up as a second coming of "Starbury"...
why do rox need another undersize PF, that could not/will not defend, and all he want to do is shoot the ball?
No No No No No No He seems to be like a 3-6 draft. I don't see him being the next CP or DWill. Beside, this will cost us dearly.
Do you not understand the point of that trade is to acquire Mayo, not Randolph? The only way you get someone like Mayo is to take one of NY's horrible contracts. That said, I would think they would want to keep their pick more than want to get some cap relief. If they did want to get cap relief, I think Jerome James/Curry plus pick would be more attractive to them. They get rid of 2 bad contracts instead of just 1 in Randolph. It's just a matter of how bad the Knicks want to rid themselves of the contract, and how bad the Rockets want Mayo.
Nah. I'd take him for some odd reason his stock nosedived and fell to pick #25 but we're in a position where we don't need to give up any key assets to get a questionable fit like Mayo. He's a bit of a tweener with average PG skills. Solid athlete, shooter and overall offensive player. Looks more to me like a SG -- in fact, i'd say his worst case scenario is becomming the next Rashad McCants. Best case scenario would be improving his playmaking abilities and modeling his game after somebody like Arenas.
He doesn't suck in response to whatever clown earlier in this thread said he sucks. He had a very good season this past year and his stock has only fallen due to the enormous hype surrounding him coming in. Plus it turned out he's probably not a point guard at the next level. Nice player but definitely not worth blowing up the nucleus for. High risk, low reward.
What I like about Mayo is that he can play 2 guard as well as PG. He is a combo guard but he likes to pass. There is no way the Rockets can get him.
mayo is very talented but something about the guy screams bust to me. of the few usc games i did watch this past year he played extremely well in some of them but he made some really really really bone headed plays that made you think twice about him. plus his whole attitude even before attending usc raises flags imo. i think he can be a productive player in the NBA if he can somehow get his head on straight but who knows. i dont think he is going to be that guy to trade a lot of pieces to go up and get though. if he is at 25 pick him up but dont trade multiple proven players to try to move up in the top 6-7 to get him
I only saw Mayo play a few games last year. A couple of them he was very bad. A couple of them he looked very good. Part of me thinks he could be "the most complete player in the draft" (as some have said) and comparable to Brandon Roy. On the other hand, I can see him struggling to define his place in the NBA. Plus, the never ending saga of various off-court issues also bothers me. Nothing by itself is scary but it seems like there is so much smoke that there has to be a fire somewhere. I would say yes he is worth trading up for if the price isn't too high. Mayo has a chance to be an impact rookie. I wish more USC games had been shown locally in Houston.
Zach Randolph is the LAST player in the league I would want on our team. He is literally a black hole.(no pun intended). Once you pass to him the ball ain't coming out of the paint. Worst fit for Adelmans offense. And we have Scola already.
WTF?!?!?! He is LITERALLY a black hole?!?!? Dear god! He'll swallow our universe!!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!!
I'd love to have Mayo, but the scenario for getting him would take A. copious amounts of luck B. Scola/Landry and maybe Battier C. Our picks from this year and maybe next year. The only talent in this draft is at the top. If you want to get into the top 10 then you'll have to make legit offers, not just expirings and Luther bone-Head
I posted this in the Draft decision thread: Here's my proposal/hope/theory: Seattle Times - May 21, 2008 Sonics Thinking About Moving the 4th Pick? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ht...038_soni21.html The Seattle Supersonics are already a very young team. They may want to trade the pick for a veteran to help Kevin Durant to develop and generally help the team. The playoffs this year have been filled with spectacular point guard play. It is believed that a great, young point guard is the way to build teams in today's league. As evidenced by Derrick Rose likely becoming the #1 pick in this year's draft over the 6'9 PF Michael Beasley. Beasley is a scoring phenom as well as a rebounding monster. He had averages of 26 pts 12 rbs as a PF. How does a point guard that had averages of 15 pts 5 asts 5 rebs go over a BIG with mind-boggling averages? They say the league is gravitating towards great point guards. The Houston Rockets have one glaring weakness compared to other championship caliber teams in the West. They are weak at the PG position. My proposal is any combination of Shane Battier and picks for Seattle's 4th pick. Only, and I mean ONLY, if O.J. Mayo is still on the board. I know Mayo's stock has fallen since the controversy surrounding the sports agency, but we can use this to our advantage to get a guy that could definitely be a star in the league at the PG position. Believe me, I know what Shane has brought to the team. However, read the scouting report on O.J. Mayo and tell me this isn't what we need for the Rockets: Averages: 21 pts 5 rebs 4 asts per game: Strengths: Extremely talented lead guard who routinely makes highlight plays … Possesses great all around skills … A fierce competitor. Plays the game with a tremendous amount of confidence, desire and intensity … The game comes very easily to him. His feel for the game is advanced for a high school level player … Strong one on one player with creative drives to the basket … Has legitimate lead guard skills, with a yo yo handle, and solid passing ability … Has the go-to scoring ability to take over late in games … Plays a very physical style and loves to take the ball to the hole … Very strong physically, able to overpower most point guards … Prone to big scoring outbursts … A strong defender who can become a lock down type of defender with his great reflexes and foot speed … Shoots well from outside, setting up his dribble drive … His first step off the dribble is off the charts … http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/ojmayo.html O.J. Mayo could be our point of the foreseeable future. Great shooter, can take the ball to the rim, great defender, plays with energy and confidence? Sounds like a complete player and he'd only be our third scorer, along with being our playmaker when McGrady is out of the game. He's big for the point position. He can also play the off-guard position if needed. We would definitely have to sign another player at the SF/SG position when Battier is traded. Guys, if the Sonics were willing to do that deal, do you think it is a deal the Rockets should pursue?
