I've never ordered a shake as a substitute for a drink on a combo meal at any fast food restaurant. I, do however, see many people do exactly that. I wonder how they can eat food successfully while washing it down with a thick milkshake. I'm sure some of you here do this. Explain.
Never made sense to me either. Milkshakes make me thirsty. I treat them more as dessert than a part of a complete breakfast.
I've noticed that I don't really drink much of my drink while eating. I have friends that will go through a couple of sodas at a restaurant with their meal, but I'll end up just drinking half of mine during my meal.
Not often, but sometimes I've done it at like Fuddruckers or Prince's. I usually get water too. Its not some alien concept though, its what all the kids did back in the day. It's what Archie and the Gang did at Pop's Malt Shop.
some people like my girlfriend dont get as thirsty when they eat. also i imagine the sweet compliments the savory creating a nice contrast of flavors. its what makes kettle corn so amazingly delicious. part of the reason i love coming home for the 4th besides seeing the folks is friendswood's fair after the parade. fair food is wonderful. i always get the kettle corn. salty and sweet is just good. hits all the different taste buds.

there are people that do not drink anything when eating then there's folks like me, that must drink a gallon of something (usually water) when i eat...
Milkshakes are not as thick as you appear to think they are, and I occasionally get a cup of water as well.
When I'm eating I don't worry about drinking, I handle that before and after the meal, but I tend to eat extremely fast so that's probably why. I've never understood the "washing it down" concept. Doesn't your throat take the food down pretty well by itself? I will drink a ton of water when I'm eating it'll just be afterward. Must be something I picked up from going to so many Chinese Buffets as a kid.
braums milkshake + burger and fries is pretty awesome. they make real milk shakes from whole milk and ice cream, and they are actually pretty liquid-like. if you have to eat it with a spoon i'd say it wouldnt work real well, but if you can suck it through a straw, you're good to go.
Wait until we have calories on the menu board like they do in New York City. It will make you think twice about ordering 2,000 calories in one sitting - it's basically your daily recommended intake of calories
I would do it consistently and unashamedly growing up. I played sports year round and never even knew what it meant to "eat healthy" until my mid-20s. Now, into my 30s, I can't even recall the last time I ordered a milkshake with fast food. I still do the burger and fries but I skip the fries once in a while in favor of an extra burger, which is probably even more unhealthy. I rarely drink soda anymore, partly due to the fact that my dentist said I was jacking my teeth up with that kind of stuff. My unhealthy beverage of choice is now coffee which I drink craploads of to my own detriment.
that would be cool. i just use a program to tally it up. but for example say you went to mcdonalds..is there anything low calorie there? if it said ur gonna eat 1400 calories..but that was the total for #1..people will still order it. the moment people realize that restaurants, fast food or not, cook for taste..not for ur health.
Homer is dumped in his front yard Moose: Duh, stay out of Riverdale! Homer (later in the episode while in his car and reading an Archies comic): Ooh, that Archie - thinks he so smart and smug!
It will be good for people to make educated choices about what they eat. This will sound weird, but 6-7 years ago I got all of the calorie brochures from all the burger joints to get an idea of how bad the food was. This is why I don't indulge much anymore. About once every 2 months I'll get a burger, fries and shake from either Wendy's or Dairy Queen.
