    Which trade is better?

I will be happy with SF/Kidd trade, if we can beat Spurs. However, if Spurs get Kidd with their tons of money, a trade of Cat for Parker will be good for both team.

Rox can put Parker as PG and move SF to SG. Spurs gets Kidd and don't need another ball handler in Parker, thus Cat may suit them better.

The only problem is the backcourt of Rox will get shorter and thiner. And we got another short Moochi as backup. This may be the shortest backcourt in the NBA history.

If I had to do one or the other, I would definitely trade Cat for Parker. Then Steve could shoot more and worry less about getting everyone involved.

And for everyone who says that our backcourt would be too small, you need to remember that a zone IS permitted now. So, as they do in Philly, you help out when Kobe, or other big guards go the post up game.

During the interview after today's game, Parker said he wanted to prove something against the best PG in the game. So I sense that Spurs was considering trading Parker if they get Parker.

Parker looked really good against Kidd tonight. Arguably the better player in the game. He's so fast. He also has the same quality that Steve Nash has in being able to stop before contact with the big men in a drive and shooting a soft floater, passing, or dribbling out.

I've rarely seen Steve drive and stop and shoot, or keep his dribble and reset. He jumps into three guys and forces a shot into contact.

Visagial, good comparison between Parker and Nash. Parker really looks like he will develop into the same type of player.

I think that San Antonio would have no interest in Mobley. Perhaps they would be interested in Cato next year since Robinsons retiring and if they pick up Kidd. Either way it would be hard to get Parker with the salary cap since he is not making $hit.

I know it is a hard sell. Hard to imagine Cat for Parker will be rejected before this season, right? On the other hand, the lesson is trade your players when their value is high. Spurs may think about that when they get Kidd.

It is like trading stocks. You can't always wait for the peak, or you will be burned soon.

Bottom line, why would the Spurs help us?

How many blockbuster trades have gone down in the same conference before?

It seems like we are always trading with an eastern team.

I'd prefer SF for Kidd. I truly believe that with a passer of Kidd's talent, Mobley would look much much better. Kidd is like an infection. He gets the ball on the defensive end and he just starts running, and he runs a perfect fast break. What, you don't know how to do that, well you better gets those legs churning and learn quickly or you'll be left behind. I think Mobley is a better player than Kittles, for example, and I know Kidd can have an even more positive effect on Mobley's game - not stat wise, but decision making wise. The other positive about adding Kidd is it makes the rest of your players useful too, in the sense that Posey would become the perfect SF, Yao would be the reciepient of all those pick and roll passes, and it may have the most positive effect on Griffin, who I can see upping his shooting percentage significantly with a number of easier looks.

Scenario where it could happen. Nets lose in first or second round. Kidd says enough of this, I need to be in the West and I need a dominant bigman, let's try San Antonio. San Antonio says thanks, but no thanks, we have Parker and he's only getting better, we're better off trying to lure Jermaine Oneal or Olowakandi. Kidd says crap, now what...CD calls Kidd says we'd love to sign and trade for you, and something is worked out.

Why it wouldn't work: First, it is highly unlikely the Rockets even try to court him this summer. Unlike the Cuban's of the world, Rudy/CD/Les aren't the type to try and go out on a limb and get something like that done. Further, Francis si basically anotehr Marbury, and NJ has seen where that lead the team. They might even prefer a package of Mobley, Rice (expiring contract), Griffin.

Chance of Kidd being on the Rockets next year = < 5%, although I consider this higher than the Parker deal.

I wish the Spurs didn't have all that caproom and we could do a three-way.

Send Francis to New Jersey and Cat to San Antonio
    Kidd to San Antonio
    Parker and Ginobli to Houston

But since they have the cap room, it's not necessary. :(

I hope nobody really thinks we have any shot at getting Kidd...

RM95, do you WANT the Spurs to win the next five NBA titles?? :)

I remember us stealing Steve Francis away from Vancouver. Clyde Drexler from Portland, and Barkley from Phoenix.

Cuttino is a cancer that the Spurs want no part of. Now that Houston is in the limelight with Yao, the rest of the NBA is no longer oblivious to his poor shot selection, and inability to distribute the ball effectively.

No, but they're going to get Kidd without giving up anything. I think Cat/Kidd is less scary than Kidd/Parker/Ginobli

Absolute best logic in the world why it won't happen barring the very unlikely prospect Kidd forces a trade to Houston.

I see Kidd with one of two scenarios.

    1) Nets do well in the playoffs and he stays put.

    2) Nets do poorly in the playoffs and all parties agree it's time to part ways. If SA makes an offer, Kidd goes. If SA doesn't offer, Kidd stays in the EC.

sf for kidd. first, rox need a point guard. second, you do not want to trade cat for parker and make the spurs better. rox would rather trade cat to an east team. third, if the spurs won't get kidd, they will not ever trade parker.

if we trade sf for kidd, we get a true pg who can control the game and be a true leader on the court. mobley stays in the sg position.

The Spurs are still planning to actively pursue Kidd, even with Parker's great play of late.

Spurs officials have stated they would expect a Parker/Kidd starting backcourt to succeed in the NBA, with Kidd playing the point on offense, but guarding the two guard on defense.

If they get Kidd, they won't trade Parker, unless their experiment fails. Than Parker may be available at the trade deadline or in the summer of 2004.

That is just ridiculus, the Spurs would love to have Mobley, they have been starting Stephen Jackson as the two guard for crying out loud. But they would not love Mobley so much to give up Parker for him.

I'd be thrilled with a S & T for Kidd this offseason but I think contractually (due to Steve's contract) it is all but impossible.
