Jeff Van Gundy is our Sexy P [= POTENTIAL ] person of the 2003-2004 season That is that player that people love on potential and can do no wrong until he does not do exactly what they say [see previous example. . the lovefest of Cato and 11 blocks . . . . Moochie Lovefest. . . Shandon Anderson Yao Ming . . . . even Francis and Cat . . . . .] Will it play out? Maybe . . [see Ming] Maybe not . . [see Cato until late last season] JVG - took 8th Seed to the finals QUESTION Did they over acheive in the playoffs or UNDERACHIEVE throughout he season That Team had Houston, Spreewell and Ewing Folx felt that he coach them to the Conference Finals . . . with those as your BIG THREE . . . IMO . . . .it was not a MIRACLE coaching Job. [Esp considering some people give Rudy not credit because he had the Dream] For this seasons [like last Season] IF WE LOSE . . . .it is Francis and Cat's Fought If we win . . and they go off for 50 each . . it is because JVG and Ming set them up for . .. Ming still has POTENTIAL from last year JVG has POTENTIAL this year. . . . .. Francis and Mobley's Sexy P'otential' his given way to the new shiny toys [Van Gundy, Ming and Nachbar] Rockets *will* make the playoffs It will be because JVG, Ming AND FRANCIS AND MOBLEY and not INSPITE of them Rocket River Show me the Actual Factuals. . .not just the POTENTIAL [Cleaned it up a bit]
I get your point RR, but you need to lay off the booze because the spelling mistakes makes your post almost unreadable.
I totally agree with the point Rocket River is making. Getting to the play-offs will be a team effort and not just the efforts of Yao Ming and Jeff Van Gundy.
So do you agree with this "point Rocket River is making" as well, and could you please translate it? Thanks.
Sir Jackie Chiles, It's not that hard to understand. He is just saying that JVG is the man of the moment and can do no wrong in the eyes of the fans, much like Yao Ming was last year. He then goes on to say that maybe JVG will work out like Yao Ming and live up to the hype or he will end up a huge disappointment like Cato has been...until last year. The next paragraph seems fairly self-explanatory. Did the Knicks team he took to the finals against S.A. overachieve in the play-offs like so many suggest or did they underachieve in the regular season? By mentioning the talent that Knicks team had he clearly thinks that they underachieved in the regular season. In the next paragraph he basically state that Steve and Cat are in a no win situation with the fans this year because if we make the play-offs it is because of Yao Ming and JVG and if we don't it's Cats and Steve's faults. He then states that at one time Cat and Steve were the new kids in town, full of potential and promise. They are now a couple of veterans with exposed faults and now JVG and Yao Ming have taken their place as the ones with all of the potential that can do no wrong. Was it really all that hard to understand that? What are you from another country or something!?
This is obviously a post poking fun at the posting style of a few and the idiotic logic of some others.
crash5179, great job at translating this. You should work with mentally incapacitated people. You are talented.
Rocket River, two parts caught my eye...JVG took the 8th seed to the Finals. Why? They overachieved in the play-offs. He had that leaderless team playing their hearts out. But, they did NOT UNDERACHIEVE throughout the season. Why? Because they had no leader. The were a good to average team collectively. That will give you average results in the long run. Allen Houston, Spree and Ewing? Ewing was too old to lead (take the game over). Allen Houston was too nice/mild mannered to say to Ewing, or Spree, "This is my team!" And Spreewell? He was a basket-case! Too wild and volatile. There's no way he could be a leader. When you take a look at Houston, Spree and Ewing at the time. They were all just as good as each other. But not one of those players you could say were undeniably better than the other. In order to have a leader on your team, the rest of the team has to know that that player IS IN FACT, BETTER than they are. Can Mobley actually say in his heart, that he's a better player than Francis? Yao, right now, is NOT better than Francis (maybe someday). So, there's a clear understanding on the Rockets who the "main man" is. Francis, plain and simple. The NY team that JVG took to the finals was leaderless. The Spurs had their leader. His name: Tim Duncan. There can be no dispute about Duncan not being a leader. The 1999 Finals Knick team reminded me of the 1998-2003 Portland Blazers: Lots of talent from top to bottom. But no clear leader. Their best player, Rasheed Wallace, has stated publicly that he doesn't want to be the man on his team. That's why I think he'd be a good 3rd option on the Rockets...but that's another topic... Nevertheless, JVG really did a good job in 1999. He had those guys playing their hearts out as a team. This is the good part. The Rockets have something that that 1999 NY team didn't' have. A leader, a hierarchy! In pecking order: 1) Francis <---sets the example, directs the floor, keeps his teammates calm 2) Yao <---the anchor of the team; gives us consistency; solid foundation 3) Mobley <---the fireball, energy; spark 4) Griffin <---the enforcer; havoc maker, the x-factor 5) Who's our small forward going to be?
LMAO!! at this point I wonder if Sir Jackie can remember what country he is in? how many countries have you been to in the last month SJC? and have you updated your pics lately? I enjoyed the ones of S America.
Right now, I am in the US of A (Chicago). I updated the pics yesterday...some pics from Rio de Janeiro (huge, 16 mio. people, I think) and Mexico City (even bigger, 22 mio. people or so).
So, you're essentially saying that JVG could do either well or poorly but that people are enamored with him because they see him as a departure from the mistakes of the past? Yep. But I don't see the negative connotation that you seem to... it's just simple optimism. Something that every fan should have at the beginning of the year. I do wish he'd change his format, but I don't think it'll ever happen .
