KT is a good player who deserves to play minutes. He is no superstar or even an uppertier type player, he is a good role player. Unfortunately, we have 2 players better than him at his position. I don't know about him moving to the 3 either where we have even more depth with Rice, Morris, and Nachbar. Can KT handle the rock? Can he make a shot from the outside? Can he defend quicker players? The point that I am trying to make is that the guy is not going to see the floor much here in the forseeable future. Yea, he was great last year but he will never see the time and touches he had last year again in Houston. Taylor is a better offensive player and EG will hopefully show himself to be a much better defender and rebounder this year with an offseason under his belt. I don't think that KT could bring us anything of real value in a trade at this pint either, but his stock will only fall this year with a decrease in time. Something needs to happen.......
I agree w/ most of your post. However, there are some very big KT fans on this board and you just basically opened up a can of whoopass on yourself
If Taylor is a better offensive player is debatable, there's no doubt he's a better shooter, but KT is able to drive on PF's and has an OK post game and his shot isn't that bad. It's a no brainer that one of them will be backing up Eddie in the near future, and I would rather have KT as a backup. His style of game is different and can cause problems coming off the bench. There's a good chance that he'll be cheaper as well. If he can move to the three and be succesful that would be great, it would allow us to use different line ups according to the situation, and give us depth in case of injury at two positions. As far as depth at the SF position, we have to see if Rice can make it through a season, we haven't seen what Boki can do in the NBA, and I think KT is already better than Morris. We'll just have to see how KT does as a SF. I wouldn't mind keeping them both if there are minutes for them.
I'm down w/ KT (that game where he, cat, and steve all went for 30+ was a thing of beauty) but UT I agree w/ you 100%. He is the 3rd best player on this team at his position and I have no idea if he can play the SF spot. If Lamond Murray is worth a player and a 1st round pick at his age and w/ his salary, KT could bring us a late 1st round pick if we traded him to a playoff contender, i.e Raptors, Hawks, Bucks, Magic, etc. It would be sad to see him go but he deserves PT and he just can't get it here.
KT is going to go mainly to the 3 according to CD. He immediately is either a starter (if Rice isn't ready - which he was supposed to be cleared this week) or he will see significant minutes. What if MT or Griffin gets in foul trouble, KT is right there to back up that situation too. Plus how many games do players miss with flu or small one - three game injuries? KT will get enough time and he is a hell of an insurance policy - you can't coach depth.
Lets go ahead and let happen exactly what needs to happen...They (KT, MT and Griff) will battle it out and the best man wins. Everyone here that says KT deserves playing time is right. But we all know very well that barring a freak accident to our front line its not going to happen this year.
Why keep KT? Simple, right now he's the one true physical 'banger' on the team. And with him developing into a combo F a la Corliss Williamson, he's critical to the Rocks' success this season. I think KT's going to be around for a long time, or until he becomes a FA next year.
The biggest reason is you can't get equal value for him. His contract is so low it is offset by his upside.
I wish KT would refine his outside shot. If he can do that, he can play the 3 when the Rox go with a bigger lineup. He is easily way better than Terrence Morris, the only thing Morris is good for is the occasional offensive rebound and putback. He also may be the only true 'hustler/banger' type on the team. His defense is pretty good too. He is worth keeping around unless he demands some huge contract next year.
Don't undervalue out hustle and determination. At this point I would list; KT as probably at this time the best 4 and also the best three we have. He is at worst incredibey insurance at both positions. The Rockets need another late round first rounder like a hole in the head, if that is all they can get for KT. I'm a big fan of Eddie and I like Mo T, too. If Eddie keeps developing I expect him to be a better 4 than Kt pehaps even by the middle of this year. If Mo T has totally recovered he has the potential to probably be better overall than KT-- at least on offense, also. KT is a better three than either of those two guys. They don't have enough lateral quickness. Rice, if healthy and fully recovered, a big if, could be better than KT at the three this year. Boki, if the hype is correct could be better, too eventually. Morris is a worse three at this point and probably will never be better than KT. If KT is disatisfied with playing time and you want to be fair then to KT, then sacrifice him for a late round pick rather than get nothing.
If we had to trade one of the PF's i would most certainly pick KT to be traded , BUT we don't have to trade any of them and our bench is pretty deep . So why don't we keep it that way?
daggone, if KT were 4" taller, 6'10", he'd be a stud. He can become the Rockets' Corliss. He's 'ok', guys -- but falls under contract issues (Mo's and KT's impending FA...)
Exacta****ingmeinto. That is why you get rid of Taylor if possible because he is in the exact opposite situation. I love it when people who actually understand basketball is primarily a financial game post a response to someone who doesn't.
Les Alexander said in the Chron: "We have three guys competing at the four position." I think he's saying that Griffin, Talyor, & KT will not be playing the 3 and someone will leave. The rockets don't want Griffin going anywhere (thank god). I can't think of a team that would want Taylors contract coming off a huge injury. There you have it, KT is the odd man out. I doubt the Rocks would even want to experiement him at the 3: 1. Has no handles 2. Too slow to guard other SFs 3. Moving him to the 3 would just cause another logjam. Trade KT before midseason, because after the break, the GMs around the league will only be looking at how to get themselves into the free agent frenzy next summer.
Yes RockestPimp and LeGrouper bball is a financial game and in a dream world MoT would be the one traded (I personally wouldn't want that but I would understand if it happend), but this is the real world. What GM would trade for MoT w/ his 6mil a year contract w/ 6 yrs. remaining and is coming off a major knee injury? Honestly, would either of you do it? Mo is almost impossible to move now and that leaves KT out in the cold. gucci is right about GM's waiting if we wait past the AS break. We shouldn't screw him and send to the highest bidder if it won't help his career. We should move him to a team that can really use him and just get what we can get. Maybe not the smartest "business" move, but its the right thing to do for a guy whose bust his @$$ for our team.
Why keep him? Because he better than MoT He has something that most of the team was missing last year HEART!!!!! KT Is better off the dribble His outside shot is NOT ass horrible. It is only a bit less accurate than MoT. Kt is the better defender and rebounder And according to all reports he can play the 3 as well. At that position . .. I'll take him over Tmo and Rice And over MoT at the 4 and over collier at the 5 Rocket River why keep KT? ? ?? ? ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME???
Amen Rocket River Fricking Sharks with fricking lasers on their fricking heads would be better at the 4 than MoT....... KT is da BOMB!!!!!
