Seriously, Rockets can consider to get Bateer as a PF

    Bateer is one of the so-called triple towers along with
    Yao and Wang in China national teams. He is now in
    Spurs but can only come off the bench at trash time.
    His advantage is

    (1) Good fundamentals. No problem with shooting,
    rebounding and blocking

    (2) 6'11'', 295 lbs, very strong and have powerful hands.
    Hard-nosed and not afraid of banging and can do all
    dirty work.

    (3) Not expensive. 1.5 millon may be enough

    (4) No problem to develop chemistry with Yao.

    He may not be as smart as Yao but should be good enough
    as a role player. His major problem now is foul trouble, but
    he will learn to get out of it later.

    Clearly Rockets now is building around Steve and Yao. All
    others can at most be role players. PF is the weakest link
    and the Rockets may not wait for Eddie's development,
    although he has great potential. Also, once Yao's rookie
    contract is expired, Rockets can not afford another big stars.
    So even if Eddie would become a superstar, Rockets still
    has to let him go after his rookie contract.

    lol. Good...

    He will have wonderful chemistry with Yao Ming. That is the greatest reason. And he is extremely cheap.

    If you really want a bunch of Chinese guys on a team, we should add WangZhiZhi too. He's making minimum wage of 400k.

    And the reason Bateer isn't playing is because he is injured...or they say he is. And they have our 40 year old Kevin Willis as well as David Robinson. The Spurs might get Michael Olowakandi. That will be awesome.

    Because our PF is not "powerful". Rockets need someone
    like Tyrone Hill or Bateer. They can play very physical,
    more suitable for Rockets than Eddie and Mo

    If you want someone powerful to play that position you could always move Cato to PF once and a while instead of getting Bateer.

    But Cato does not shot well, and he is expensive.

    Okay...Chinese people are not aggressive or tough...

    Yao is on a very good team where everyone encourages him to dunk...

    Cato even though he doesn't shoot well can rebound and play defense! So you're saying Cato is too expensive so you just want him to be on the bench.What is wrong with you, who in here would take Bateer over Cato?:mad:

    In the WC games I watched, Bateer actually appeared to have a bit better grasp of basketball than Ming displayed during the games. Hard to believe considering what Ming has shown us lately. But Bateer's a bit older, not quite Sabonis but getting up there.

    Yeah, I think Bateer has already peaked.It won't be getting better IMO.

    Cato is very good backup center. I think he should get
    15 - 20 minutes per game. Ming need enough rest
    and in case of injury, we do need Cato to step up.

    The reason we don't use Cato at pf or go after someone like Bateer is because they have poor lateral quickness. They cant stay with the Dirks, Shareef's, Gasol's, and KG's of the league.

    I know he is a good back up center, we have Eddie, Mo T, and Cato just in case as PF back up. He is averaging like 10 minutes a game and is only 28. Cato can definately give you more than that if needed.

    That's why we have Eddie Griffin...

    In the Pacers game.....Brad Miller got a lot of easy baskets just running faster than Yao Ming. Yao couldn't catch up with him. But I'm glad we won.

    im pretty sure if bateer was any good then he would be getting some playing time in SA. but he isn't....
