I just moved into my new apartment over the weekend and got my DSL services transferred and turned on 10 minutes ago (after 45 minutes of "help" with SBC "customer service.")

For the past 72 hours, I have felt lost without the Internet and the ability to check on scores, my fantasy teams (I found out 2 days late I won my fantasy football league championship!!!! Lousy friends didn't call to congratulate me! or even tell me I won)

So how did we do it? I have been through hell without the Internet for 3 days. What did we used to do in the days of yore? Seriously?

Wow. Only three days? Both times I've had to get DSL, the wait was a month.

I know I watched a lot more television back in the days before the Internet.

But it's all about timing and delivery and he nailed both as usual. :D

I just got SBC Yahoo DSL. I hooked up my modem during the Rocket game last night. It took all of 15 minutes. I'll never go back to dial-up.

Well, except that I can no longer get DirecTV b/c I don't have LoS from my apartment, even though the manager promised that the place would.

No more DirecTIVO. Tis a sad day. :(

However, on the plus side, I can see my gym from my parking lot and only have to travel 5 miles to and from work.

If only there was a Subway within walking distance, I would be in heaven.

Time to go watch the Holiday Bowl at my parents' house b/c I have no satellite dish! (now i'm stuck with cable, which won't be set up until Friday! :( )

For 5 years I lived with cable modem service, only to move and find out (after the fact) that my new apt. don't have high speed net access. I have had dialup for a few months now, and I AM IN HELL

If you're willing to pay $70, you can get decent speed (2-3x faster than dialup) service from Verizon Wireless.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately?) I am not willing to pay $60 more a month to get net access that is 2-3x faster. What I have ended up doing is just transfering most of my casual browsing to my work time when I have a high speed connection. Sure, the work has suffered a bit, but I work for bastards anyway. :D

    You think THAT'S rough?

Try living on a base for three and a half months where the only internet access is via crappy coin-operated slow-as-molasses dialup machines. One dollar for 15 excruiciatingly slow minutes.

I still wonder how I ever lived without an ATM back in the day.

You young whipper snappers have it so damn good and don't even appreciate it.

If you are on the top floor sometimes management will let you install the dish on the roof and run the line into your apartment. Try raising a big stink about being promised LOS and not getting it. I would wait for him to be talking to potential new renters before going in there to get the full effect. Master Baiter is the best I have ever seen at getting management to give him free stuff. I can't tell you how many times I have seen him get lunch for free. Try dropping him a email for advice om this.

I miss my DSL connection. I am stuck using dial-up right now in Saudi since it is free. They have DSL here but my dad would rather spend the $460 a year else where. (He has fast internet at work so why get it here where he doesn't spend so much time online)

My apartment complex provides my internet access, nice and fast. Dialup is slowly killing me. Way too slow.:(

    I miss my puter too....I'm a dork. ;)
