http://www.marca.com/edicion/marca/baloncesto/nba/es/desarrollo/1182233.html Original article in Spanish http://hoopshype.com Sarge and Sergio's relationship is well documented in articles on Oregonlive.com. I'd side with McMillan on this one. Rodriguez is a poor shooter, bad defender, and just turns the ball over with wild plays. For the Rockets another thing he doesn't have a 3pt shot. However the Blazers do hold the draft rights to Joel Freeland. A 6-11 PF/C who scraps for rebounds, runs the floor well maybe enough to keep with maybe the slower guards in the league?, and can hit the three ball. Freeland played very well in the Eurobasket 2009 qualifying tournament [Most would know of this tournament as the one Luol Deng had trouble getting insurance for]. Perhaps his most recent game for his spanish club in the ULEB Cup is an indication of a breakout season? http://www.fibaeurope.com/cid_KNce8...MZ6JB01.season_2009.roundID_6521.teamID_.html Freeland was drafted 30th in the 1st round in 2006. If he's not a bust he could be a low cost replacement for Deke in 2009-10? Also the Blazers recently picked up Rodriguez's option for next year making it guaranteed? They tried trading him in the off-season but it was reported teams simply did not want him. Von Wafer's contract is enough to match salaries so if the Rockets are willing to eat Rodriguez's salary for next season and Portland are willing to give up Freeland's draft rights perhaps there's a bargain there? Apparently Rodriguez and Fernandez are tight. Do they consider as a possible bad influence? If he's perceived to be that could force their hand some as well.
Sergio Rodriguez has been a dead Blazer walking for a very long time. He has no long-term future in Portland. The Blazers need him to function until Bayless is able to get a grip on things.
I like him but not that much......if you can get him for a 2nd or maybe Luther....for a cheap look, you do it....otherwise...nah. DD
As I stated in my original post. Portland shopped him in the off-season and no team wanted him. They picked up his option for 2009-10. This could be an opportunity to pick up the draft rights to Joel Freeland or one of their other assets [Petteri Koponen, 4x 2nd round picks in 2009, 2x 2nd round picks in 2010]. Rodriguez could this year's Jackie Butler.
If we are going for an untested PG for the future, then we should work on securing the rights to Peteri Koponen. If Morey could do that while also picking up the rights to Freeland for somebody like Luther, then I would start believing in Morey...maybe.
Von Wafer or Dorsey's contract are the only ones low enough to trade for Rodriguez. No way am I suggesting trading for Rodriguez with the view that he is an asset.
I remember seeing Rodriguez in a game a couple years ago, and he looked like the second coming of Steve Nash. I guess that didn't pan out.
a situation where players who don't suck as much get to play more? I'm not aware that the Blazers are "unnatural" nowadays.
Before the Billups trade... If those undrafted rookies of the Warriors don't pan out, I could see them use him.
Hmm... So you would believe in Morey for securing the rights to two borderline NBA players, but NOT for picking up Artest, Brooks, Landry, etc.? <BR><BR>
