I bought it and watched it last night. It was good, I had Netfixed the show a couple of months back. I'm still bugged by the reason for why the guy hunting down River said he did the things he did. I just couldn't buy into the guy being willing to do all the terrible things he did because he wanted to make a better world for everybody. It was cool to learn the truth about the Reavers though and that surprise near the end totally caught me off guard because I don't read any Firefly message boards or anything.
Why was she soaking wet? Is this going to be the beginning of a really dirty joke? I hope so. I agree that the first couple of episodes of Firefly were not that fantastic. But do NOT give up on the show until you have seen: Shindig Our Mrs. Reynolds Out of Gas I doubt anyone who has seen these three episodes could resist falling in love with Firefly.
Actually, the movie basically broke even at the box office with worldwide sales of $38,471,845 and a budget of $39,000,000... the DVD is going to make them a profit from the get go, and a lot of movies would love to say that. I wouldn't be suprised if we see either more seasons of Firefly or another Serenity in the next few years.
Summer's hot and all, but Morena Baccarin. Shoot, Jewel Staite is "teh hotness" too. I wish I lived in the future where all the women are hot.
I got my Firefly box set late last week and watched the whole series over the weekend...and I kind of wish I hadn't. Not because it was bad, but because it was so damn good. Now the show ends and I keep wanting to see more, or at least have hope that there might be some more. I'm going to watch Serenity again tonight and see how much different things are now that I have a good feel for all the characters.
I got the boxset last week, it was the last one in the store. Fox sucks....some of the best episodes were never shown. Grendal, the episodes are arranged in order, but they also have airdates listed by each episode so you can tell how bad Fox screwed it up by shuffling the order I just rented Serenity yesterday and will watch it sometime today when I get time. It would not surprise me to see SciFI pick it up and continue it, Joss still has tons of story left to tell in this series. btw...Ranking of hotness of the women of Firefly. Morena Baccarin Jewel Staite (Kaylee) Summer Glau
The question I have is, were Joss to do that, would he keep the movie and the series seperate, or will the few significant advancements of the series storyline remain? Either way it wouldn't bother me, but it is interesting.
I would think that if he can get someone to pick it up, I could see a Star Trek style storytelling...use the series for the original storyline and flesh out the details with the movies. Watching the special features on the boxset, JOss talks about how much detail he already had written/planned as far as the storyline goes.. much more to go in regard to the corporation pursuing River, who they are and what they are tryin to do.
This is a really good movie, but I would reccomend seeing the series first. The movie wraps up tons of plot lines, and serves as kind of a spoiler if you plan on watching the series later. I disagree. The DVD sales were the reason why Family Guy was finally resurrected. So: This shows that Firefly has a shot of being resurrected as well. I wouldn't be suprised at all if Sci-Fi picks it up and adds it to their Sci-Fi Friday lineup in the future.
That would be outstanding. I knew that Family Guy's return was directly a result of the DVD sales, but I couldn't find solid details on the position of Firefly on the DVD sales list when this thread was started, for some reason. It's awesome to hear it is #3. If it holds in good sales position, maybe seeing more of the show won't be such a pipedream. Edit: Actually, I just checked Amazon.com again, and now Firefly is tops on their DVD top sellers list. Awesome!
there are parallels between the two. FG was cancelled due to perceived lack of interst by FOx, as was Firefly Both have huge active online fanbases which work hard to spread the word. Both have had great DVD sales after cancellation. I think once they see how popular both the series and the movie is in DVD sales, someone will be willing to sackup and bring it back..It certaily doesnt hurt that Joss has the reputation he has from his other projects(Buffy, Angel), unlike Seth, who was basically a nobody when he sold FG to Fox. If not Fox..SciFi is the most logical place for it.
You're welcome Cohen, help spread the word..... I have loaned my firefly box set out to at least 10 friends, and all of them have loved it. One guy liked it so much, that he called in sick on a work day, took his kids to school and watched 5 episodes. Good show. DD
Firefly is fun, but it feels way too much like a rip off of Cowboy Bebop (at least the first couple episodes -- it was clear as day to me where the inspiration for Firefly came from). If you love anime, or if you love Firefly and can tolerate Japanimation, I'd recommed watching it, (less campy humor, more depth -- especially after multiple viewings). It was (is?) also shown on Adult Swim, but just like how Fox showed Firefly -- all out of sequence, missing key episodes (for adult content), and (the horror!) dubbed instead of subtitled.
