This is my softball team that I've played on for the last 7 years. A little history... 3 players grew up playing Little League together in the Memorial area in the 1960's. They, and some other friends went to UT together in the late 70's. 2 intramural softball teams were formed and, once they graduated, merged into what would be called "The Rock Lobsters", after the famous B-52's song of the same name. The Lobsters joined the Austin City Softball League in the Spring of 1981. 28 years, 100 seasons, 40 league titles, and 1000's upon 1000's of pitchers of beer at The Posse East later, the Rock Lobsters won their 500th game on August 31st, 2008. The core of the team is still together. There are 6 original members still playing, with 3 others that joined shortly after the team was formed. Some moved away and came back. I, at age 33, am the youngest player on the team. There is one other that is 34. The next youngest will turn 50 in a month. We have 2 high powered lawyers, a VP of a large chip manufacturer, a world renowned nuclear physicist (who is married to an Austin City Councilwoman), architects, accountants, etc. All from different walks of life who come together every Sunday night for a common goal...get that game out of the way so we can get to The Posse. It's one of the greatest things I've ever been associated with. My hope is that I will take over the team in the next 5 years or so and start a youth movement so that the Rock Lobsters could potentially see win #1000. Below is from last nights KXAN news. They filmed us last Sunday for win #501 and for the Mayoral Proclamation that we received from the city naming Sept. 14th as "Rock Lobster Day" in Austin. I'm not going to say which one I am. Rock on Rock Lobsters NO PRISIONERS! Softball team gets own day article w/ mayoral proclamation
Jim Swift is an umpire....which fields are those? They didn't look like Krieg, was that Havens? I think we have played you guys.....a few times.....over the years. DD
I thought this thread was about a specials on rock lobsters in area Austin restaurants. mmmm...rock lobsters are my favorite...
It's Krieg 6. We haven't played at Havens since I've been on the team. What team were/are you on? Swifty used to ump our games and some of us had filled in for his Mad Cows team in the past...
