The ill-conceived Clinton gun ban should expire and this is a good thing because it is about rights vs. taking away rights...There are over 4 million gun toting responsible citizens that vote in this country, who are members of the NRA!... I believe in keeping every right attainable...I am pro-rights for citizens of the United States,...that is what makes this country different...and in my view better...It will be a joyous day that unfortunately a few wicked senators and reps. are trying to take away from you and me...McCarthy, Shumer, Feinstein, Kennedy...these are politicians who are ardently anti-gun and will fight like no other to take away my right and enjoyment...unfortunately, Bush has stated he will sign the continuance or even worse replacement bill if it comes to him...But first it must pass in both houses...In the Senate, it stands a fairly decent chance of this happening...IF it gets to the floor in time...The House of Representatives is the best place for this to get killed, and it will likely be just that ensuring that the ban properly sunsets...and of course, this is a BIG "IF" it makes it to the floor in the first place...Time is running out and if nothing happens between now and Sept. 13th, the ban is done for and a glorious return will be realized for all regarding your freedom! Right now, despite Kerry's alliance with Kennedy, I'm not sure who is the better ally in this regard, but I do know the GOP representatives gives pro-gunners the edge... As someone who enjoys shooting, it is a day, I can't wait for...
give me a run-down on what the bill prohibited, if you have time. i am a much bigger believer in gun control today than i was just one year ago.
Wait, you mean to tell me that the ban didn't lead to the government taking over all of us????? So, the NRA's Chicken Little was full of ****...
from what Ive read, it seems like a lock the controls will continue as well as getting those gunshow loopholes fixed banning assult guns and the continuing the waiting period on hand guns have ZERO impact on your rights as a sports gun guy
AK 47s and other semiautomatic rifles. Quite valuable for hunting.... EDIT: the complete list Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all models) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil Beretta Ar70 (SC-70) Colt AR-15 Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12 Steyr AUG INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22 revolving cylinder shotguns, such as (or similar to) the Street Sweeper and Striker 12
You've obviously never been deer hunting. I once was surrounded by a bunch of angry charging white tailed does. I must've emptied two full clips of AK rounds into those suckers. Unfortunately, my late wife had the misfortune of going hunting in 1995, after the ban. While she bravely fired off round after round with her pump action 12 gauge, she didn't have the rate of fire that she needed to fend off all those charging deer, and didn't make it...damn you Clinton!
This is the key. Until they are fixed, this ban has no teeth. As far as I know, anyone can get any kind of gun they want at gun shows with little or no background checks etc. Is that right? Of course, most of the people out there shooting other people with assault weapons are using illegal weapons anyway so what good does the ban do? It's a complicated issue.
Yes, i'm sure you haven't been able to shoot guns during the "Clinton gun ban" Nonsense. Why do you want background checks to expire are you a felon? This issue above all others separates intelligent American citizens from the gun toting Neanderthal fools.
your right, without fixing the gunshow loophole, the waiting period/background check laws are only cosmetic thats why it was encouraging that Senators voted, 52-47, to extend the assault weapons ban for another 10 years and, 53-46, to extend to unlicensed private sellers at gun shows the same requirement for background checks that applies to federally licensed dealers the bill those were attached to got killed though so hopefully Congress can get those individual measures into law ASAP
Though not a gun-lover myself, I'm not happy about the weapons ban for the simple reason that it is a right protected by the Constitution (mostly as precedent, since this particular ban may not be so prohibitive as to be considered unconstitutional). I think gun-control proponents don't do us any favors by selectively disregarding the Bill of Rights, even if their position is otherwise reasonable. In most arguments (like this one), that's what's done: argue about how one doesn't need AK-47s instead of arguing why it is within the government's power to regulate in this or that way. I'd be the first on board for an amendment to the Constitution to remove or clarify the right to bear arms. But, without that, I think people are not sufficiently vigilant in guarding their own rights. It isn't about guns for me, but about the rule of law.
Though not a gun-lover myself, I'm not happy about the weapons ban for the simple reason that it is a right protected by the Constitution. You really think owning assault weapons is a right protected by the Consitution? Would you say the same for other "arms" such as grenades, bombs, missiles, nukes, etc? If not, where do you draw the line and why?
There are all sorts of restrictions on the bill of rights. You can't shout fire in a crowded theater, etc etc etc. Obviously, the second amendment can't be interpreted as absolute, or else you could have nuclear weapons in your garage. It's simply a fact of life that the government has to regulate weaponry.
I'm with DaDakota on this one. This has to be the most outdated Right in the Constitution and this is something that needs amending. The right to pocess weapons was written when the only fire arms were cannon and muskets. I mean, should I be able to keep a nuclear or "nucalear" weapon because its a right.
First we need to take care of the important amendments namely the scourge of gay marriage before we can deal with trivial issues like assault weapons. _________________ Billy Earl needs and UZI and he needs it NOW!!!!
the 2nd Amendment has been ruled by the Supreme Court over and over again for the past 200 years to apply to the STATE'S right, not individuals this is why the NRA lobby's Congress and why they do NOT ever appeal in the courts over Gun Control Laws
