I have a copy of xp 2002 that looks like its worth around 50 on Ebay. Are there any issues with it already being registered when you sell it? How does that work? I don't want my buyer to have any problems. thanks.
I think that once you register it, it gets saved onto the Microsoft database along with your system specs. If another person then tries to register that copy of XP on his/her machine, the database will come back saying that the copy of XP is already registered to a different computer, and will not let the new person register it. XP is meant to be one copy for one computer. Of course, I'm no expert; that is just what I have read online.
I think this is true. I bought a copy of XP pro in 2002 and I used it on 3 different computers every time I'd reformat them. Eventually it said my license ran out because I had installed it on too many computers, which is horse crap because I owned all 3 of the computers..
I see used copies on ebay so i know people are selling them. I want my 50 bucks!!! You can sell other used software why not xp?
The license for operating systems from Microsoft (and pretty much any other company that is not open source) states one license one machine non transferable. If you resell it, you are violating the license agreement you agreed to when you installed it and clicked the box that said you read the agreement and understand it.
hehe Well I can tell you a few things 1) It is very unlikely that Microsoft will go after an individual who sells a single copy of Windows XP 2) The buyer is likely to experience a problem either at first activation or if they upgrade the machine they are installing it on. It may not happen right away but it will happen sooner or later. You just have to decide whether it is worth it or not. You probably won't face any heat from Microsoft (in fact I would say there is not a measurable chance), however you are likely to have a buyer that will be upset at some point in time.
