Is there any kind of rule about selling a car to a minor in the state of Texas? If sold and the car became a problem could it be looked upon as taking advantage of a minor? Thinking about getting a different car and selling the old car instead of trading it in.
Minors can't really enter into contracts in Texas for non necessity items. So they could buy it from you, wreck it, and their parents could demand the kid's money back. That is what I learned in my business law class 20 years ago.
No rules... just laws. http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/titles/title_vehicle.htm I think this has been asked before... don't know for sure.
Selling a car is a contractual agreement, even if cash is paid for the car up front it's still a contract. A minor is not allowed to enter into a contract which gives them the opportunity to void the contract whenever they want.
Well well, why don't you try selling to a non-minor in our very own Hot Deals and Classified section. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/forumdisplay.php?f=10
I always learned in my business courses not to enter into contracts with minors. If the kid wants the car, get his parents to be the party to the transaction. It's probably their money anyway.
Exactly what everyone else said....don't do it. Kid can return it at any time he wants to get money back. They can not beheld responsible for a contract.
Any car sale to a minor is not binding. So he can in essence bring it back at any time and claim for his money back. something about minors not being binded to any contract. Business law.
