Awkward title but didn't know how else to phrase it.

Whats standard operating procedure when seeing someone for the first time in a long time, but then immediately seeing them again like minutes after, especially if it was a typical awkward "catch up conversation".

e.g. I saw a guy I hadn't seen in 5 years at the grocery store. We chatted about 10 minutes. Your standard awkward convo. I end the conversation because I'm in a rush and still have a couple of items left to get. I see him a minute later in the same aisle, but he hasn't seen me yet, so I turn around and walk to the next aisle. I don't even know why. sigh

Good move. That would have been truly awkward, and not the "awkward" that people use in non-awkward situations to be cute or funny.

I once had an awkward conversation with hotballa in a hangout thread, then moments later, I saw him in a GARM thread, and was like ... too awkward, I'm outta here.

He seems normal when it comes to basketball talk but awkward as fuark when having a normal human conversation.

How do you explain basic social skills to someone who has none? It's like a bird trying to tell a snake how to fly.

I think this is why nodding and waving were invented.

You could have kept walking past him saying, "Man, good to see you again but I need to get going. Have good one and take care, bye."

    hotballa speaks truth.

In similar situations, I usually deviate from my usual sequential aisle weaving and do circles around the person I'm trying to avoid (having already seen them of course) in adjacent aisles.

I act as though I still haven't seen him in 5 years and try and have the exact same 10 minute awkward conversation.

I won't deny that there are times during "Curb Your Enthusiasm" where I'm silently agreeing with Larry while the other characters are asking him what the hell is wrong with him.
