My pick: If he is in the draft.......Milan Macvan. Portly 6'9" Serbian big man with unbelievable bball iq, a nose for the ball and a space creator, and he gets to the free throw line a ton. 20 years old. He can get healthier through proper training and worrkouts but he's got that tank body and he's got tons of iq and good bball skills. If he is in the draft, I think he can be a very good player in the NBA.
Luke Babbit: top 15 recruit hiding out at homestate, mid-major Nevada. Smoothy lefty with a nice 10-15 jumper, can hit from outside at a good percent, seems to like the elbow and 12 ft baseline jumper (particularly the left side on the baseline), exceptional ballhandler for his height (6-8). Shows some low post prescence with a left hook shot. Long strides, good altheticism and a solid defensive rebounder. Best perimeter defender on his team, tends to stand up and not get in his stance, but can make up for somethings defensively against the competetion he currently faces. Does not come off screens a whole lot and not given very many iso oppurtunities. This is from what I can gather, saw one game vs. New Mexico State in the conference tournement this year. Sounds like a decent offensive player who needs to make adjustments on defense.
That dude has Luke Jackson written all over him. My sleeper is Willie Warren. I know he did bad this season, but I think it was just the players around him wasn't as good as last season. I say try to draft him in the second round and stash and develop him.
I live in Oklahoma and trust me when I say this..........he's a locker room killer. Plus, he's a slightly undersized Ben Gordon, with less shooting skills.
Lance Stephenson, if he comes out, his projected to be a 2nd rounder(b/c of character issues).... he was one of the top prospects coming out of high school, I like him as a potential sleeper <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_coa9WjvcYU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_coa9WjvcYU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Another potential sleeper, IMO is Paul George, 6'7 SF....However I doubt his a 2nd rd, he more of a late 1st <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ERcmFdlrrXY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ERcmFdlrrXY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> --RB
Speaking of sleepers what about Jon Scheyer out of Duke? In some of the mock drafts I've seen, he's not even listed in the mocks. He was an Micky D's all american in the same year with C Bud. I think what hurt him in his development was that he came in the same year as Garald Henderson and they play the same position basically. And with Duke when you have all those all high school americans like Duke has, its hard to be a top dog when everybody else want to be it. That being said Scheyer has made big strides in his senior year. He was more of a two guard for most of his time at Duke but has improve as a pg and his game this year. I'm not saying draft him in the first round or anything. But I think he's too good to be undrafted.
Morey looking up at the "The Air Up There" in the Spanish second division? http://twitter.com/dmorey/status/11114898484
Kenneth Faried , Moorehead State. He led the nation in rebounding (per 40 min, pace adjusted) two of the past three years and was third in the other year. The last person who led the nation in rebounding three years in a row, Paul Milsap. I'm just saying.
Actually he's a really good bet... smart kid, hard worker. I've seen him play several times.. nothing flashy about his game, other than his ability to get into the air, just solid. I wonder if he goes back for his senior year... might get better looks if he makes it back into the tourney.
Too bad he wont get the same special treatment in the NBA and half of his offensive rebounds will be called fouls which they rightly should be.
If Gordon Hayward falls to the second, I really like him as a sleeper. If not him, then I'll go with Jarvis Varnado (shot blocking machine) or Willie Warren. Warren killed Texas last year.
If we are looking for skilled size in the second (which we won't be because Morey knows that skilled big men are a commodity not to be found outside the top 10, and we only say "top 10" because Amare and Bynum made it out that far), then the best available will be Jerome Jordan of Tulsa. He's got a good assortment of moves, and my guess is that he'll find a way to stick around in the NBA for a few years. Other intriguing guys in my mind that are projected to go in that range: Lazar Haywood and Craig Brackins (who incidentally like Budinger had been ranked at times in the lottery in past moments of his college career).
He's declaring, but he doesn't plan on hiring an agent. He's a late first-rounder at best, as his only strengths are perimeter defense and a mid-range jumper. Plus, he's only 6'2'', which is considered undersized for a 2-guard. He needs to return to Texas for at least another year.
