And the girl is suing the city, and should/will she win the case?
She should sue the city, and I hope she wins. The city is spending her [parents'] tax money on the citizens' "safety" (if the guards are hired by the city). Clearly, the citizens of Seattle are being taken for a ride.
lol most these "security guards" probably never seen a real fight in there life and is basically stunned and don't know how to intervene without risking their own lives
I first read the the paragraph where the police defended the inaction because the 3 security guards were outnumbered by a mob of 3 to 1, and they followed their job orders. I thought it might be understandable. Then I watched the video. That's such bull****. Sue the city. Sue the "security" guards. Find the attacker and arrest them all. It was very clear that there was no mob craze. Everyone else was just watching or taking video. It was one girl who jumped another girl and beat the crap out of her while 3 big security guards (much bigger than the teenage girl attacker) did NOTHING. What type of men are these dudes?
I like how everyone is so sue crazy. It doesn't matter the actions taken or the outcome, somebody is suing someone. I can't blame the security or bystanders for not doing anything due to the risk of getting sued.
I agree, these are not cops we are talking about. Everyone knows Security Guards serve more as sentries than actual "keepers of the peace." The girl/ her family is just mad their daughter got beat down, and are looking for someone to blame. If it wasn't in the policy before the incident, than there was no wrongdoing.
yea three big men and if you look at the video again the girl who got attacked went near them almost for protection adn then started walking behind them to keep between the aggressor, yet still no response as she was just taken to the floor, that was sad to see, not just because they are 'security' guards, even just anyone should try to intervene.
I'm not one for suing people but this is ridiculous. What is the point of having security guards if they don't provide security? How can a man just sit there and let that happen.
I don't often agree with giddyup, but I'm right there with you on this one. Security Guard or not, I don't see how three relatively big, burly guys can stand around and watch a 15-year-old girl get beaten. I don't care if it's in your job description or not, you have to intervene to help another human being in need. Question for the legal-minded here: does Seattle have a "Good Samaritan" law, and would it be applicable in this case?
That is a great point, although a fairly sad commentary on our society. The report and don't intervene policy is probably in place out of fear of being sued if they intervened. The situation they are trying to avoid is where they intervene and injure the other girl and then are looking at a lawsuit the other way.
