How do the sites that turn up at the top or on page one get there as opposed to other sites. Say I wanted a website to get at the top of the google list for 'Web Hosting'. What options are there besides write web hosting 40 billion times in the text of the site. Thanks...
There are several ways...you can pay the search engine to give you something similar to a preferred customer listing. These can be sorta expensive, but definitely worth it if you've got the cash. Another way is utilizing a search engine submission service. These guys will register your website with a list of search engines. These services are usually hit or miss and can sometimes do more damage than help (as they may tend to over submit your name therefore barring your site's name from that search engine). Another factor that helps get a higher listing is the links from other sites that go to your site. It helps show the popularity of your site. Keep in mind when submitting your site, the keywords in your html tags are key. You need to keep this list trimmed down to only the keywords that you want associated with your site. If you use too many of these words, you could get blacklisted by the search engines. The best thing to do to check out search engine submissions is to find an online service and check out their FAQ page. They usually do a pretty good job of explaining how these things work.
How come whenever you type something, you seem even more idiotic than you did before? boomboom - thanks
