Sean Penn Arrives in Baghdad for Three-Day Visit

The actor and director Sean Penn arrived in Baghdad on Friday morning at the start of a three-day visit to Iraq.

"By the invitation of the Institute for Public Accuracy, I have the privileged opportunity to pursue a deeper understanding of this frightening conflict," Penn said in a statement released in Washington and Baghdad on Friday. "I would hope that all Americans will embrace information available to them outside conventional channels. As a father, an actor, a filmmaker, and a patriot, my visit to Iraq is for me a natural extension of my obligation (at least attempt) to find my own voice on matters of conscience."

Penn's visit to Iraq has been organized by the Institute for Public Accuracy, a national U.S. organization of policy analysts with offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

If he stays long enough he should be able to get a great deal on a fixer upper.

I hope Sean asks the Iraqis what happened to the 170,000 innocents that have "disappeared" in the last ten years.

I worry that he will waste his time bashing President Bush.

Sean is to be praised for his courage. Hopefully his trip can help prevent the war somehow.

Right, because we all know how instrumental Sean Penn is at peacekeeping and foreign affairs.

    UGH.

He'll always be remembered as the guy that married Madonna, or whatever.

I did enjoy his work in the film The Game with Michael Douglas though.

Did you see what he did for world affairs in "The Falcon & The Snowman"?

    Ahhhh yes, I stand corrected.

OK, I take it back! Good Luck Sean, go stop that war on Iraq. Tell Saddam that he can tell YOU where his WMD are, and that you will personally destroy them, thus avoiding war. He can in return give you one of his palacial estates to live in.

Afterward he can visit the graves the 350,000 children under five whose deaths are directly attributed to the US lead embargo.

    Good times.

I thought it was pretty well known that the U.S. embargo was not responsible for those deaths...that Sadam kept all the supplies and medicine for those who were close to him, and did not distribute to the general public.

So while his people die he keeps on building huge palace after huge palace.

No Worries' source for that little nugget was most likely the Saddam Hussein camp. Hmm... lunatic fringe extremists like No Worries and glynch once again siding with mass murderers and despicable human beings like Saddam Hussein... Politics surely does make strange bedfellows of us all!

Do a google search on "Iraq+embargo+death". Prepare to be educated.

Anyone else notice that the "what happened to the 170,000 innocents that have 'disappeared' in the last ten years" statement went unchallenged.

Here is a link that says 500,000 children have died (not the 350,000 I previouly mentioned).

Thus, TJ is proven profoundly wrong again. CASE CLOSED.
