There is not a single player that I would trade for Yao. And since I've been on this board long enough, y'all know I'm not a Yao lover.

Does he have Ralph Sampson Qualities? ABSOLUTELY! Yao is THE quintessential 2003 version of RS, and that scares me.

That being said... NOBODY trades Ralph after he played his rookie year. Remember the S.I. article back then about Chi trading M.J. for R.S. straight up, and the writer (along with every American at the time)saying that would be ridiculous on the ROCKET'S part? Sure.... We can make arguments now, but....

NOBODY EVER TRADES A GREAT CENTER!!!

They are the hardest position player's to find. And other Than M.J.'s Bastardized ring's (Rocket's never played them), No Team has EVER won a Championship without a great Center.

A PF is a good player. But name the last time a great PF won a champ being the leader of the team? Hmmmm.... Thought so.

To everyone who thought Amare was the ROY, I've got this Q.

Would you trade Yao for Amare?

    Thought you would. Morons!

depends if you consider Tim Duncan a PF or C I guess.
The Pistons didn't really have a great big man (Laimbeer/Edwards/Salley).

If we had the draft to do over again, would you do this trade?

#1 pick (Yao) + Mobley + Griffin to Golden State for
    #3 pick (Caron) + Arenas + Murphy + Richardson + Foyle

I think GSW would have done it considering Yao's popularity in the bay area.

Even though I think Yao is the best player above, I think quality depth is important. I think this line up would have gotten us the 7th seed in the west.

    F: Butler/Rice
    F: Murphy/Taylor
    C: Foyle/Cato
    G: Arenas/Norris
    G: Francis/Richardson

I would hate to see Yao dominate Floye and Cato and watch GSW beat us to rings in the future.

no i woudn't do this trade. Caron isn't that good. arenas has had on1 good year, i like him but he is a scoring gaurd first, we already have those, Murphy is a good rebounder but not more richardson is a great leaper but not a star. Mobley is a great scorer, Griffin has potential. and i wil not have to say anything about Yao. so no i woudn't do this trade

LOL, that looks like this board's new Yao non-lover full disclaimer. Kind of like the recent "I don't support Saddam Hussein and think he is a vicious killer who kicks puppy dogs and other small animals but I have some serious reservations about this war..." ;)

I agree with you totally on the trade issue and even if AS was marginally better than Yao (a BIG IF), any team would take Yao hands down because he is a marketing dream who puts fans in seats and is in the same rarified level as MJ, AI, TMac or Kevin Garnett for drawing fans on the road. If I were ever tempted to attend a Sun's road game, it would be to gawk at Marbury's skills and I doubt many fans would pay big bucks just for the exressed purpose of seeing AS.

China wouldnt have let Yao Ming come to the NBA if there had been the slightest hint that he might be traded!

No offense, but that is one of the worst trades ever proposed here :).

Agreed. No way you trade Yao Ming. I would have a hard time trading him even if he would only give us 15 & 12 for a career, given what he brings to the team as far as humility and international exposure go. And I sure as hell wouldn't make that Golden State trade. You smokin' something, Outlaw?

    Shaq
    Kobe
    Nowitski
    Garnett
    T-Mac
    Duncan
    Jermaine O'Neal
    LeBron James

I agree with the premise of this post: Yao is the most valuable trade commodity in the NBA today. In reaching this status, you have to look at salary, age, and marketability. Check out this ESPN article from a year ago (pre-Yao) listing that writer's "top 40" most valuable trade commodities:

    http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/020404.html

If you are Rudy, trying to save his job, for a two to three year window you would want Shaq, the most dominant player in the NBA today. But Shaq may be towards the end of his career, and carries a high price tag (you would have to trade most of your team to get salaries that even match his).

If you are Les, there is no way you trade Yao, especially with the revenue and attention his marketability will bring. He earns a low salary, and is locked into a rookie contract/team option for the next four years. He would have to take a big paycut and gamble to turn down the max extension we will offer him next summer to wait till the end of year 5 to hopefully find a team under the cap for which he would rather play. Even the max contract we can offer him will only start at 10 million per year, a fraction of Shaq's current price.

You would trade Yao for LeBron or J. O'Neal????  At this point in time, I see no reason why anyone would trade Yao for Lebron, and it looks like Yao's game is ahead of O'Neal's already. So why would anyone trade him? The only reason I would see a team trading Yao would be if they wanted to win next year, then they'd prob trade him for Shaq or Duncan.

I would never ever trade Yao for Lebron. J O'neal is a tempting trade, but if Yao lives up to his potential, I wouldn't trade him for the world.

I'd rethink that. I can rattle off quite a few.

It is vastly more accurate to say, "No great center has ever failed to win a Championship."

You can't say that about any other position, and *that* is why no one trades a great center.

Kenny gets no love from outlaw. That trade doesn't involve Kenny; you don't have Posey in that lineup; so apparently you just killed Kenny. You b*stard! Yet, you still have Moochie hanging around. :D

I wouldn't even trade ym for kobe! remember when shaq was out in the first half of the season, kobe could not put a win to his team record despite all that high scoring...you don't trade a tall young center esp. someone with ym capabilities and potentials...

Can anyone explain to me that why a pre-draft Lebron James is getting sooooooo much more love than a pre-draft Yao Ming?

In a prospect and potential (not performance obviously) standpoint, I don't think Yao was that much worse than James, wasn't he?

Did James dominate highschool so much more than Yao dominated Chinese league?

Is US highschool basketball that superior to Chinese pro ball?

Then, why did people say Amare's transition from highschool was more difficult than Yao's transition from China and cited this as the reason giving Amare ROY?
