Thursday, January 25, 2001 The Detroit News Skiles comeback? He won't deny it. And that alone makes it intriguing. A rumor has been circulating around the Suns for weeks that Coach Scott Skiles was preparing for a comeback. He was asked point-blank about it in Minnesota on Tuesday and again here Wednesday. Each time his answer was the same -- "I don't want to comment on that." Skiles is 36 and retired as a player five years ago. He has been seen frequently running and shooting, not recreationally but with a sense of purpose. He has even scrimmaged with his injury-depleted team a couple of times this season. "It wouldn't surprise me," said Irvine, a close friend of Skiles. "He probably looks at what's out there playing and figures, 'Shoot, I can still play.'" There are no NBA rules prohibiting Skiles from coming back. He would, though, have to clear waivers before he could play with the Suns. Could you imagine the furor if some other team happened to claim him? ------------------
Clear waivers???? I don't think that is correct. Waivers generally implies a player contract is signed already. No? I don't recall Jordan having to clear waivers.
