Scott Brown has a radio commercial of John McCain endorsing him and telling us how awesome he is. I'm voting for Brown, but this McCain endorsement in Mass might as well be a negative endorsement. After the Palin thing, I figure he would just keep on it on the down low.

    from Josh --

    Busted!

Massachusetts Senate candidate Scott Brown told reporters today that he's "unfamiliar" with the "Tea Party movement." But TPM Reader NM just showed us that his own campaign site features at least two pictures of Brown addressing Tea Party events.

So Brown not only lied, he's also apparently ashamed of the Tea Party movement and wants to disassociate himself from it.

I understand why he would be, but I'm not sure why he would be speaking to them on multiple occasions if he was.

Nice use of sarcasm. And yet, if it was a liberal who was caught lying, you would be all over it.

I don't know anything about Scott Brown or his opponent, but I do know that the moderator in that debate was ridiculously out of line and I commend Scott Brown for his answer.

I'm not saying that he didn't lie, but if you go to the original source, it's a very creative use of quotation...

From the Boston Globe piece: He also claimed that he was unfamiliar with the “Tea Party movement,” when asked by a reporter.

Notice how there is no direct quotation saying this. http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/01/campaigns_going.html

When picked up by talking points memo, it changes to: State Sen. Scott Brown told reporters in Massachusetts today he was "unfamiliar" with the "Tea Party movement," despite earning the endorsement from one of the groups who is raising money for his campaign to win the U.S. Senate seat Tuesday.

I'm sure one of you super sleuths can find the original denial, but I have class right now so I'm not going to go digging for it.

Haha, wouldn't be surprised if it's a total misuse of whatever he said. The Boston Globe is awful.

    Scott Brown disowns tea partiers?

The GOP Senate candidate says he's a "Scott Brown Republican," not part of any tea party movement
    By Mike Madden

WASHINGTON -- Since Saturday, the group behind TeaPartyExpress.org has spent at least $32,000 supporting Scott Brown, the Republican candidate for the Massachusetts Senate seat, federal records show. Brown's own campaign Web site highlights a fundraiser held a couple weeks ago called the "Friends of the Tea Party Scott Brown reception," where paying $500 earned supporters the label "American Revolutionary" (for a mere 25 bucks, you could be a "Patriot"). The conservative blogs that help fuel the tea party movement have been abuzz over Brown for weeks, eager to see the GOP candidate pull an upset win over Democrat Martha Coakley.

Which makes Brown's statement to the Boston Globe Wednesday about all the fuss a bit of a surprise. "I'm a Scott Brown Republican," Brown told the paper when asked about his ideological alliances. When a reporter asked him about the support from the tea party groups, he apparently demurred. "He also claimed that he was unfamiliar with the 'Tea Party movement,' when asked by a reporter," the Globe reports.

That doesn't tell us anything new. In fact it just keeps misquoting the TPM's misquote of the Globe.

You really believe a republican candidate for the senate has never heard of the tea partiers?

I haven't seen an actual quote where he says he hasn't heard of them.

I never said that. I'm saying the Globe hasn't released the direct quote. He might very well have said that. He might very well have said something different or nuanced, that is being interpreted by the Globe in the way they want.

It was reported that Brown told a reporter that he forgot to use the rolleyes smiley.
