The last post in the last Scoreboard thread said that our magic number is 3 for a tie breaker and 4 to clinch outright.

I just wanted to point out that that applies to both the Giants and the Cubs. If we win the next two, the Cubs lose the next two and the Giants win 1 and lose 1, we've clinched against the Cubs but not the Giants.

I'll have to admit I am very impressed with the Astros turn around. But I'll also have to admit I'd rather see the Cubs or Giants win it all.

The nice thing is that no matter what happens today, the worst the Astros could be is tied for 1st.

    GO PADRES!

    GO REDS!

Screw the Cubs and the Giants. I hope the closest Barry Bonds comes to a World Series trophy is the ones that his father was a part of.

So if the Cubs, Stros and Giants win out, and the Dodgers win today, then all 4 teams would have a 92-70 record. I'd prefer the Stros win out and everyone loses, but 4 teams at 92-70 would be pretty cool.

I think the West would be decided by the Dodgers/Giants head to head record.

None of this will matter, because the Cubs and Giants are going to lose again. In fact, the Cubs are gonna lose this afternoon. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Not if other teams are tied with them.

If its a three-way or four-way tie... the Dodgers and Giants would have to play one game for the division... then, the losing team would drop into the wild-card formula just as if it was a 2-way or 3-way tie.

If you are willing to pay $2.95 you can watch the game online on MLB TV @ www.mlb.com

Head-to-Head records are only used when both teams are assured of making the playoffs. If there is any possibility of a team being eliminated then they go to one game playoffs.

In case of 4 way tie (from mlb.com)

What if four contenders in a league finish with the same winning percentage? Let's say the Dodgers, Giants, Cubs and Astros all finish with the same record.

In that scenario, Los Angeles and San Francisco would first play a one-game playoff to determine the NL West champion. Then the losing team would join Chicago and Houston in the three-team playoff tiebreaker. This would all take place between Monday and Wednesday, pushing back the start of the NLDS.

As far as the pitching matchups go, it looks good for the Padres. Jerome Williams hasn't pitched since July 30. Hopefully Harang can pitch at least keep the Reds in the game. If it gets to the Cubs bullpen, things will be looking up.

Never had so many Astros fans in here wanting other games on like the Cubs...you can feel the intensity.

Last night i had people cheering during the SF game just as hard as they were during the Astros....It was Great.

We really need an audio link for the Cubs game. Gamecast is just not cutting it for me.
