I know I've criticized the moronic Cubs announcers endlessly on this board, but the flack that Steve Stone is getting right now is totally uncalled for. For instance, in the Chicago-Sun Times today, 3 out of the 5 Cubs articles are on the STEVE freaking STONE controversy (the other two being the game story, and how "injuries" did the team in... yea right). He's become the official scape-goat for this year, and all he did was tell the truth: The Cubs don't play smart baseball, Dusty Baker was wrong to make it an "us against the world" clubhouse, and they should have spent more time worrying about their game rather than announcers and umpiring conspiracies. Unfortunately, its looking pretty likely that Stone will lose his job over all of this. Baker will refuse to talk to Stone now, and thus none of the players will let him in... and that's pretty harsh treatment for a guy who flies with the team, and is as close to the game as one can be without actually putting on a uniform and being in the dugout. Honestly... if the Cubs want every announcer to be like Ron "woo hoo" Santo, they can go back to being the laughing stock losers like they've always been. This whole thing just makes Baker, the team, and the entire Tribune Co. seem like complete idiots. For a better commentary on all this, read Marrioti's article ... its quite good.
do they have some pieces of **** on that team or what.. zambrano is one of the head turds on that team.. that sucks for the Braves because it looks like Chippers hand was in serious pain when they showed him on the bench.
Even though I'm happy the Cubs are losing right now, Atlanta looks like a pretty solid ball club. JD Drew could have been the next Mickey Mantle, if it wasn't for his injuries thus far... but when he's healthy, he's one of the most dangerous hitters in the game.
8-6 now. This is great; we are about to witness the lovable losers officially throw away their last opportunity at postseason play. I love it!
Someone was holding a sign that said, A stone cold fact: "How bad do you want it". What does that mean? Is it a shot at Steve Stone or the Cubs or not a shot at all.
I believe thats a shot at the Cubs. Steve Stone practically ran off a list of reasons why the Cubs have choked away the playoffs.
Can you hear it? It's getting louder and louder... It's a gagging sound coming from the mid-west....Oddly, it sounds a lot like a goat.
