So far, most of the discussion on the board regarding this young season focuses on two things: 1. The periodic shortcomings of our stars, and 2. The emergence of Aaron Brooks. However, I don't think enough attention is being paid to our two-headed monster at the 4: Scolandry. Of course, Luis blowing up tonight sheds a little more well-deserved light on our power forward position, but even before this game, Landry and Scola combined have put up 19 points and nearly 12 and a half rebounds a game, shooting over 50% from the field and over 90% from the FT line. Those two are quietly starting to put together an impressive and, most importantly, consistent performance this season, a fact that's getting buried under all this knee-jerk sensationalism. I hope it's a trend that continues. That's Scolandry's solid play, not the knee-jerk sensationalism.
Well, I'm referring more to the offensive consistency they've produced. Chuck's always a rock on defense.
There's no doubt Scola is a huge offensive talent. You see tonight Scola playing well against a young thunder team. That's no coincidence, because Scola plays well against less polished guys. More importantly is the trend that Scola plays well when he is not a defensive liability because guys lik petro/swift/collison is simply not going to own you offensively, and as a result Scola is allowed more playing time as well as expending less energy defensively.
To think before last year we've been struggling to get solid play out of our PFs for years. Landry and Schola are both solid scorers. I don't get that nervous feeling anymore when our PFs shoot. We solved so many problems with last year's rookie class. Our PFs in the past few years: Kelvin Cato Ryan Bowen Maurice Taylor Stromile Swift Juwan Howard Scott Padgent
Go even farther than that. have we had a solid PF since Otis Thorpe? I guess we had Kevin Willis for a season.
There is no doubt we have been getting a solid output from Scolandry. However it still hasn't been good enough. Espicially on the boards, which if anything has been there weakness. With Yao who isn't the best rebounder, when need our PF combo to be getting at least 15 boards combined, per game.
All of our three PF are underrated. The only disadvantage is the height, but they make it up with their efficient play and hassle.
Scola and Landry solved our PF problem,Scola is a MVP,and Landry is a guy full of passion. Now our PF is a strong point, although Scola and Landry even all not superstars, but their roles helped Tmac and Yao greatly
Scolandry got teamhigh points (scola's23 and landry's 4) and 12 rebounds(scola 11 and landry 1). It's pretty good for them to get the double double but they still frustrated us with their no-block. I had supposed they would blocked out the thunders who are generally more undersized than scolandry. Compared to hayes who played great defense tonight, scolandry are a lot softer and seem not able to match up beasts. No matter how good scolandry seems, we always need hayes in case of a provoked beast.
