Congratulations to Scola and his wife for their 3rd child! It's in spanish. Hopefully someone can translate it for us. http://www.canchallena.com/1153230-scola-nadie-garantiza-que-vayamos-al-mundial
First paragraph talks about him being the possible captain of the Spanish National Team. Hopefully a true spanish speaker can correct me if I am wrong.
Luis Scola's vacation will end tomorrow. He will no longer enjoy his day to day life with his family; especially his son Matias (Matthew). Matias was born on July 4th; his third son. The National team (Argentina) has called him; as captain; in order to start working towards the long road of classifying for Turkey 2010. Scola wont find himself in the same team in either the national team or Houston Rockets. The abscence of Yao Ming; due to his injury, Ron's departure to the Lakers, the arrival of Aussie center David Andersen and Ariza reflect a different aspect of the Rockets. 'It will be very different; more so if Tracy MacGrady will not play in January; like they told me. They also brought in another center to replace Dikembe Mutombo; who retired. I suppose we will have a more dynamic team in Arizas and Anderson's ability to rotate on court (mobilitiy). "Rick Adelman likes a fast offense; and so we will be an interesting team. The Houston team from last season was ready to go all the way; however we should not let these changes take away from that drive" Scola closed wit his traditional conversation style: "I have the best expectations for the coming year and lots of want to resume competition" this is more or less what he said. Hope this helps
Scola will not be renewed in a staff selection only: the same thing happen in Houston when it returns in October. The absence of Yao Ming by injury, the Lakers going to the Ron Artest and the arrival of Australian David Andersen and pivot Ariza reflect another aspect of the Rockets. "It will be quite different, if Tracy McGrady can not play until January, as I said and bring another pivot to replace Dikembe Mutombo, who retired. I guess we will have a more dynamic sound and mobility Ariza Andersen. Rick Adelman (DT) likes the offensive quickly, so we can build an interesting team. The Houston last season was crouching and ready to make the jump, but do not discard these changes. " And the conversation ended without betraying his style: "I have the best prospects for this year and are eager to compete again." 2nd paragraph from google translator..the 1st paragraph makes no sense
Appreciate his attitude about not giving up and being ready to role with the new changes to the Rockets. I'm glad he's a Rocket.
Well, Scola holds dual citizenship in Argentina and Spain. I assume he could play for their national team kind of like how Hakeem played for the USA. It'd just be a shocker if he ditched Argentina like that though.
I'm pretty sure you can only play for one national team during your career. That's why Tim Duncan never played for the Virgin Islands.
Scola thinks the cavs, the lakers, and the spurs will be the top 3 teams next season. http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=872972&s=bas&type=column
http://www.fibaamericas.com/noticiasread_us.asp?r=EQRVHVTVUJ ARG - Scola thinks with caution about 2009 FIBA Americas Championship BUENOS AIRES (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) - Argentinean national team and Houston Rockets center, Luis Scola, analyzed with caution the teams for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship that will be played in San Juan, Puerto Rico from August 26 to September 6. Scola didn't offer any guarantees about Argentina being in the top 4 in order to qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. "I have the outmost respect for this tournament. It is not a World Championship or an Olympic, but I put it the same as the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas. It will be very difficult, there are well built teams," said Scola to La Nacion. "Brazil goes with everything. I talked to Tiago (Splitter) and he told me that he would go; I also talked to Leandrinho (Phoenix) and said the same. Dominican Republic announced Trevor Ariza, Villanueva and all their NBA players. Puerto Rico will be a strong team with a mix of players with experience in Europe and the United States," "Mexico is always strong; Uruguay is a team that I like how they play and make it a tough game for us. You always have to respect Canada. We can lose with anybody. Nobody guarantees that we can reach the FIBA World Championship and I am not even sure that we can get invited," Scola said. Argentina has many key losses like Manu Ginoili, Fabricio Oberto, Andres Nocioni and Carlos Delfino who has a right shoulder injury. "There are many important players that won't come, but we knew so we will play with the available ones, taking the tournament as a great challenge and giving everything to qualify." Argentina is in Group B along with Brazil, Dominican Republic, Panama and Venezuela. Group A has Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Uruguay.
