From a Rockets press release a few minutes ago:

Please... understand the cash cow. No more Yao trade rumor posts. Ever.

Yao might not be able to make his teammates better...but he certainly make them richer. :D

One question. Does the Rockets organization also get a cut from these commercial endorsement deals?

instead, Yao might have a very long playing career here in Houston. I'd put my money on > 15 seasons..... hmm, How old is Les?

I bet Bonzi will be the next, if he keeps finding Yao in the low post.

As much as I respect clutch and appreciate the work your guys have done for this wonderful site, I must protest the above line. It leaves some bad taste in my mouth. Call me stupid or insane whatever you like, I hate to see the cash cow part whenever it comes to a rumor about Yao trade. When it is overemphasized, it becomes an insult to Yao's palying ability.

    I feel better now...

It 'pays' to be a good teammate to Yao. Endorsement deals and, just maybe, ASG starts!

Plus, he is a remarkable and laudatory person as well as one fine NBA stud!

I only see that happening if Bonzi signs a new contract with us, which I doubt he will since he's looking to get paid (I would too).

I understand what you mean, but it was clearly not meant that way. The great thing is that we want to keep Yao both for his playing ability and his commercial value to the franchise. I hope he will be a Rocket for life and I hope he will go down in Rockets history as one of the great centers of all-time, in a line with Hakeem...and I hope he'll attract more free agents at less than their market value because they will realize they can make up for lost salary by more attractive endorsement deals from China. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved.

The only thing the Rockets should still improve is that they should get more enthusiasm in the arena by making sure seats are always filled...they need a good secondary ticketing provider like viagogo so that if people can't go, they will be able to sell their seats to someone else in a safe, secure and guaranteed manner ;).

What I'm hoping now is that other NBA players see this, and will be willing to settle for lesser contracts for the Rockets knowing that the endorsement money will make up for lost contract money.

No worry. pryuen will get an endorsement deal from a China-based company soon. Money cures everything. :p

WHY do you think I'll be p@$$ed??

There is nothing mentioned in the short paragraph that Clutch posted about what are the specifics of those deals.

And if I'm not mistaken, there is nothing new about Scola's deal. It could be the same Anta deal that was known for a while now. It's just a press conference like the one held for Steve Francis.
