should we trade one of them? if yes, who would you rather give up? i'm a big fan of both of these guys. but i've just been thinking about maybe adding a bigger 4 and another big 5 with athleticism that can block shots and finish like a mad man around the rim. scola- is experienced, been through battles in international basketball and has adjusted well in the nba. he is smart, what he lacks in athleticism and length, he makes it up with his crafty and methodical footwork and positioning. landry-still quite young, a blossoming talent. he brings athletic ability, strength and explosiveness to the table which we lack in scola and chuck. even though both of these guys do a good job of rebounding and scoring. i'm not sure if its enough to guard big long talented 4's like KG, duncan, amare, gasol, dirk to name a few. scola is big enough at about 6'9 but he probably got about an inch or two on yao with his vertical leap. which is not impressive. he can't block any shots or finish plays with authority around the rim. landry on the other hand is only about 6'7, strong and athletic, but still at a disadvantage when on the defensive end while playing guys like gasol. it's a fact we are undersized at that position also with chuck being the 3rd guy. outside of yao, i know we are in a desperate need for size and length on this team. if we trade landry. then we have scola who is the "win now" type of player, experienced, consistent and not injury prone. but trading landry means we give up pretty much the only guy that can really jump on our team. but giving up scola is like giving up heart and basketball IQ. but i have a feeling a bold move is gonna happen this offseason. if it had to come down to landry and scola. who would you rather keep and why?
No way we trade Scola IMO. He hustles 100% of the time, he's durable, and he's a proven winner among many other things.
i've just been thinking about maybe adding a bigger 4 and another big 5 with athleticism that can block shots and finish like a mad man around the rim. Sure, go on down to the NBA store and pick a couple up. And get a 6'5" point guard while you're there.
You can't compare Scola to Landry. I like Landry, but Scola showed you in the playoffs that he can be a go to guy. And, all season he was our MVP. Landry is exciting to watch, but he doesn't have all the intangibles and is not a starting 4 yet.
i guess the better question would be if we can keep both of these guys and win a championship? i know winning the championship doesn't fall squarely on the shoulders of these two but these two guys has good trade value. and we can probably get a good combo with a taller player that is better suited in guarding big 4's and perhaps fill in better at the 5 when we have an injury
fakers were able to do it... it seems like phil jackson teams are always able to find height and length at EVERY position... fisher is the the only guy who is avg height at his position kobe, ariza, odom, pau, bynum all have size and length pippen, ron harper, kukoc, longley all have size and length houston should build the team with that in mind... undersized players just dont work in the long run...
Well i would have to say the answer is to keep Scola considering there were rumors about Landry being traded to the Bucks for Charlie Vilanueva
Keep both and just add a back up center. The only time the Rockets should consider trading either is if it nets them a superstar in return. A combination of landry or scola plus others for a marque player would be great but till then keep both.
I want to keep both. But if we have to give up Landry for a big backup PF-C, I wouldn't mind. Scola is our PF unless we can get a superstar caliber PF to replace him.
I'd hold any trade involving Landry. Landry has been a good learner. I heard he is working on his dribble and defense. I wont trade him before I see the results after the summer.
The answer to this is really simple to me. You trade either one if a deal comes along that makes the team better. However, there is no reason to actively try to trade either of them.
A year ago I would have said Landry, but Scola is better than I gave him credit for. He became very consistent with his mid-range jumper, and improved as a defender as well. Scola has also shown to be a far more durable player. Landry is too inconsistent.
i prefer keeping both b/c they offer different things. if push comes to shove, you have to keep scola. he's a legit go-to guy and his low post game is money, and his midrange game is very good.
