That might one of the best 5 man defensive units in the entire league. If the other team doesn't run pick and rolls I would swap scola for yao. The only problem with this unit is they don't get the rebound.

I don't think rebounding will be the problem for that roster, bur rather scoring.

Yao changes alot of shots and gets several blocks too. Heck, he got 2 on Duncan on the post today. Replace him for Scola and you have a lineup. Scola's not a good post defender, but Yao is sometimes slow on the rotation. Pick your poison...

yeah dont think it'd put scola over Yao there if we're talking defense. Scola's defense isn't that improved and it leaves you with zero shot blocking. Yao's d and shot blocking has imporved enough for him to hold the middle down.

    Boards and no shot blocking.

Guys like Kobe that can knife through parameter fence, that line up gives up two points for sure, or teams with big forwards to post up.

You gotta put in Yao there to make up some size. I feel

    Lowry
    Artest
    Battier
    Scola
    Yao

is our best defensive and offensive unit.

yao, hayes, ron, shane, lowry would be the best defensive lineup we have.

in the event that the teams best player is a PG and they love running PnR then yao is subbed for scola.

I said I would put yao in for teams that don't pick and roll, but if it gets into a pnr situation either it becomes an open shot for the other team.

Agree, but they may have trouble to guard big guys.

it is a great defensive lineup, unless we're playing a team that can pull yao away from the basket with a big that can shoot

Has this lineup played 100 minutes together? If so, they're not even ranked in the best 5-somes around the league: http://www.82games.com/0809/USORT7.HTM (sort by DEF)

However, Alston-Battier-Artest-Scola-Yao is 4th best in the league, Alston-McGrady-Artest-Scola-Yao is 14th, and Brooks-Battier-Artest-Scola-Yao is 19th.

The latter is the only combination comprised of players currently on our roster to even make the cut. One might argue that Alston and even McGrady played a lot of minutes with the 1st team, limiting the possibilities for alternate combos, but 100 minutes over the course of a season is not very much. It may seem ludicrous to suggest that the Rockets would allow fewer points per possession with Scola on the floor instead of Hayes, or Brooks instead of Lowry, but that's what the numbers indicate.

Do you have infinite timeout?Once we offense what can we do?And who defends Duncan? This is the standard Unit B Ad used. They are stronger than most team's unit B, but not better than Unit A.

Landry(when he returns) might be a better option than Scola simply for shot blocking, rebounding, and athleticism. At least, he seemed to be improving defensively in the stint he was back from his ankle issue.

when quoting stats on defensive abilities in terms of 5 man combinations, the moment denver nuggets have the #1 ranking all credibility is lost.
