ARG - Scola fires Argentina past Poland ROSARIO (Olympics) - Argentina edged Poland 88-86 in Rosario on Wednesday in their first warm-up game for the Olympics. The South Americans played without injured Manu Ginobili and Carlos Delfino, who is still in talk over a new contract with the Toronto Raptors. Center Fabricio Oberto left the game through injury as the Argentinians struggled against the Poles after trailing by as many as 10 points in the third quarter. Superstar forward Luis Scola led a spirited fightback and the South Americans prevailed. Scola, coming off an excellent rookie campaign with the Houston Rockets, had 22 points and nine rebounds while Andres Nocioni scored 17. The next game for the 2004 Olympic gold medalists is against Mexico on Saturday in Buenos Aires. Ginobili still doesn't not know if he will be able to play in the Bejing Games because of the ankle injury he sustained in the NBA play-offs. Leonardo Gutierrez gave Argentina a lift off the bench with 12 points. hes a beast under the fiba system... http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fc/news/lateNews/arti.asp?newsid=26473
Last year was a get your feet wet year, where I think Luis just wanted to fit in....I think this year we will see MORE of Luis asserting himself.....he may even be the team leader some day....as Manu is in San Antonio. DD
Maybe, but he did get 10.3 and 6.4 in his rookie season. I do admit that his average was partially dependent on Yao's absence, however he did quite well in the playoffs with 14/9. I think he will either have a similar season or make more gradual progress with 1 year NBA experience under his belt.
i'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic because that's what idiot's said last season before he came over. i think scola improves his numbers across the board in his second season and i think yao being healthy only helps him.
This is the problem with just quoting PPG. Anyone who watched the games vs. Utah saw that Scrubola put up a *ton* of shots from 3 feet and closer to get those 14 PPG. He also got to the line a reasonable number of times but he (like almost all Rockets under 7'5") couldn't convert often. PPG means one thing but efficiency is more important for players who shoot frequently.
Your point is correct, however it's unrealistic to expect more from him at this stage. Hopefully,he will show more progress if he works on his weaknesses.
