From the radio 1560, Richard Justice said that the league has put Joel Przybilla on the flopper list, the NBA references are not going to call his flopping, but Scola’s name is also in the list. He also said that TMac could be in the game Friday. Please lock the thread if this is not useful information.
Did they put Tony Parker and Chris Paul on that list, those guys are HORRIBLE floppers....and CP3 intentionally goes backwards INTO people to initiate contact. DD
considering he tweeted that Ron Artest did a good job guarding Aldridge in the first half of the game friday... my sources would say yes.
BTW, Ron was constanty blown by.....guarding Roy..... Can we finally admit that Ron's perimeter defense has seriously declined? The only thing he does really well out there is beat on people and force them over time to back down. DD
wasn't that more off the PnR? ron would go over the top on the PnR which allowed roy to take it to the rim on yao right? i think in the second half they did a better job a few times or going under the pick and making roy shoot jumpers.. i don't remember an instance where roy blew by ron 1on1.
Roy is too good to stop completely but the important thing is that we're making him work hard for his points. He may get his averages but he's gonna have to work hard to get it with different looks from our players. Hopefully he feels he has to take the load on himself and only gets his and is unable to get his teammates involved. We didn't do the best we could do at guarding him the last game but we did keep him below his FG% and we didn't let him get to the line a lot that night. I'd say our defense on him was a B-.
Ron was guarding Roy 1-on-1 with virtually no help shading. That's why Roy wasn't able to make plays for anyone else. Roy is a great player, and got his early, but Artest dogged him pretty good. It says a lot to me that Adelman went with Artest as the primary defender on Roy over Battier.
The problem with Ron is that he gambles too much. He is not giving Roy any space, he is all over him. But he doesn't understand he is not quick enough to do that against any sg in this leauge. And once Roy (or somebody else) makes one dribble he blows right by Artest and Ron is done because he can't catch him. He plays very physical which is good because it takes so much energy from opponent. You have to work hard to make yourself free. But at the same time you have to be careful because Ron has great hands. The difference betweem him and Shane is that Shane understands what he is capable of. He knows he is not quick and Roy can run circles around him. So he gives him that space o shoot and once Roy decides to take the jumper he immediately puts a hand in Roy's face. Shane just forces bad, contested jumpers. Ron doesn't. I wouldn't say his defense has declined. He just doesn't understand he is not quick and gambling is not a good way to play D.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lowry pulled this move the other day against Dallas too. Nothing worse than being on my soap box screaming about all the floppers to my friends only to have a couple of my beloved Rockets pull the same crap.
I was surprised to see Adelman go with Artest. To me, Artest is more effective guarding the more physical players whereas Shane is better at guarding the quicker ones. DD, you don't know what you're talking about though. Artest was constantly put in a P-n-R with Yao's man, thats why Roy was able to come off and have a look at Yao one on one. I don't remember too many times where Roy just completely took Ronnie 1on1 without any pick. That said, it's amazing to see how much Yao's defense has improved. He's gotten so much smarter in this area- he's able to jump straight up, then go for the block when they fade to shoot over him. I'm not sold that Artest over Shane is best for guarding Roy just yet. However, Artest is a physical defender and that might play into bumping Roy off his finesse game. The scramble on the floor where Roy hit his head shows that- I'm not sure this Portland team wants to be physical with us, and having one of the most physical defenders in the league going after their finesse leader might set the tone.
Scola has been teaching Battier how to flop. Honestly, flopping is part of the game, it's just, i think the game is better played when the officials let teams go wild, where fouls are only fouls when they are hard hits. I think the game is better when officials swallow their whistles. Until they do, why not fake a fall? Why not flop? All the best players and teams do it. If MJ can get away with the push off why can't any other player get away with the fall back?
