    http://finance.yahoo.com/college-ed...0/is-the-college-debt-bubble-ready-to-explode

If you don't want to read the link, this is a brief summary:

A 23 year-old girl owes $200K in student loans to get her degree in sociology at Northeastern Univresity.

Her 3 mistakes: borrowed $200K to get a crappy degree at a no-name school.

What makes me more curious, is why the hell did the banks loan her this much money?! A young girl in college with no career should not be allowed to borrow nowhere near 6 figures to pursue a bachelor's degree! Of course she's pretty dumb about her education, but why didn't the government put a stop to her borrowing?

Because it is an enormous scam enabled and endorsed by the government.

Big Picture that explains it all:

Because the governments and accrediting boards failed to set up a decent higher education system a hundred years ago. They created finishing schools for legislators' and rich people's kids; then when farming and later manufacturing imploded they just upped the tariffs and pork. College enrollment, at least for MCW kids, should have been 100% fifteen years ago. It's probably why they let these god awful online and for-profit schools run around.

Dumb girl should have gone to a more affordable school. She would have spent a fraction of that with in state tuition at UMass.

Depending on her looks, she can marry a millionaire and not have to worry about paying off her debt. Of course, this all depends on her looks.

Just make minimum payments, and as you get older smoke a lot of hash, drink a ton of booze and you'll be dead once Social Security benefits starts to kick in...
You won't have to worry about any more payments because you're dead!!!

If I was an employer and a potential employee came to me in similar circumstances, I certainly wouldn't hire her.

I got suckered into a deal like this. Luckily half way though the first semester, one of the new professors talked me out of continuing the school. I was out a couple grand, but I was more angry that Fanny secured the loan on a school that was practicing shady business.

That is a lot of money....about what a doctor has in loans.....amazing.

I ran up about $23k, and took a 2nd job as a bartender after work 2 or 3 nights a week and paid them off in 4 years.

That hash and booze thing sounds way more fun than my way.

It cost up to 80K to go to one year of culinary school in some areas. The average pay for a chef/cook is around 30K.
