My nephew wants to go to Schlitterbahn New Braunfels for his bday. I guess all his lil friends told him its better than splashtown I havent been since I was a kid. Im just wondering what to expect and If I need to be prepared to bring anything? tubes? flip flops? etc? Other than that, any good places to eat nearby? I remember getting good German food there a loooong time ago. Thanks.
Try to avoid it on weekends. Try to get there early. Be prepared for looong lines. This might seem like common sense advice for any amusement park, but Schlitterbahn especially. Even though they added a second site, there's still not enough capacity to meet demand. If staying over in New Braunfels, also try Natural Bridge Caverns.
of course we are going on the weekend. two sites??? which one should we go to??? and how early is early??
It's just me, but I wouldn't even bother on the weekend. I can't remember the last time I've been to an amusement park on anytime between Thursday and Sunday.
Go to the New Braunfels. The PARK IS SO FREAKING BIG! Theres like 3 parks you can go to. It's rated the #1 Waterpark in the world. You have to try the Surf machine thing.
What you do is wait in line. Or at least that's what happened the time I went. (and it was a Monday or Tuesday) You couldn't even carve out space for yourself in the wave pool.
i just went last friday for the first time in 5 years. lets see... the two site thing, is really one site. a bus/shuttle will take you back and forth for free. its a 5 minute ride or so. and my friends and i got there at 12p. but i think you can get there as early as 10am. and for some reason it was not as crowded as i thought it was going to be. but def crowded enough my favorite part of the day was at the newer park and it was a pool/river that would go around a small island and it had a current. you can have a float or not (3/4 of the people did) its a dif type float that is at entrance of it. and about every 30-45 seconds a wave comes around the whole thing. it was pretty neat and if the chance of myself ever becoming a multi multi millionaire i will have that in my backyard but as far as some of the rides it seemed like a pretty harsh wait at some even on a semi slow day. so get there early.
I havnt been for a couple years, but I used to go all the time. It is by far the best water park in the country. Technically there are like 7 parks, but they are in 2 areas. The old ones are all around eachother and there are 2 newer ones. You should spend a day at both. One day, make sure you wake up early and head over to the master blaster. There are 3 huge slides there and they are all great. However, if youdont get there early, you could be waiting for 2 hours. When I was there, people would be waiting outside the park for 30 minutes and then they would open the gate, and everyone wouldsprint in. It is then a race to the top (its like 7 flights of stairs). If you get there early enough you should be able to do it a few times without a long wait. The old park also has some great rides. But the water is spring fed and really cold. You dont need tubes because they usually offer them there.
Public swimming areas freak me out. No way am I sharing a pool with 1000 peeing kids. The only way I would go to Schlitterbahn in Galveston is if I could rent it out to myself and they spent a week shocking and replacing the water prior.
one of my fraternity brothers once saved a couple of toddlers who had flipped out of their tubes while floating the guadalupe..... while tripping his balls off. said it was the weirdest thing he's ever experienced.
Yeah, but the one in New Braunfels has technically 7 areas http://www.schlitterbahn.com/maps/NBMap07.pdf
