So the Pistons experiment didn't quite work out: - Thomas is a HOF player/PG. Francis is not a PG. - Mobley does not have the court savvy of Dumars. - The closest Norris would come to being Vinnie Johnson would be a "Kenmore" sticker on his headband. - Dantley/Aguirre, Rice/Posey, there are no parallels; no consistent low-post scoring for Houston. - Rodman/Salley, Taylor/Griffin...Taylor is the team's best (only) PF. - Edwards/Laimbeer, Ming/Cato...might have worked. The three-guard/aggressive-post-players lineup that helped Detroit get pass Chicago didn't work for Houston. ... Maybe it's time to try a different lineup. The Lakers have historically been successful with a dominant center. O'Neal and Ming are different players. Ming and Abdul Jabbar, however, are comparable. (Tall) PG - Johnson/ (Undersized) SG - Scott/Francis (Athletic) SF - Worthy/Posey (Rebounding) PF - Green and Thompson/Taylor Bench Cooper -- Reliable perimeter shooter/defender. Cato Okay, so Houston is missing one star player (PG) and two complementary players (PF, Bench). PG: As much as I would like to see Jason Williams in a Houston uniform, Jason Kidd is the only PURE PG that will be able to direct Francis (and the offense) on the court. PF: Grant and Murphy are statistically great rebounders. Whatever happened to Ratliff -- did he fully recover from his injury? Bench: The reliable shooter from the bench has already been mentioned in another thread. I'm excited about (some) of the changes for Houston this summer! University (Return to Innocence) Blue
In case you didnt know the Houston Rockets have been historiacly successful ONLY with a dominant big man!!!
Steve and Yao can lead this team, they just need better players around them. We need to bring in role players like Jon Barry or Murphy, who will do their job and won't complain about minutes or stats. Steve Barry (Better off the bench, if Steve moves to SG, then he would be back up) Posey (For the Right price) Murphy (Griffin and someone else should be able to nab him) Yao
But, but, but... we've historipterydactylly had dominant big men. Going back to the 70's we've had great/legendary big men like Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone, Chuck Nevitt, Ralph Sampson, Hakeem Olajuwon, and now Yao Ming. We've also sucked or been average when we had dominant big men such as Moses Malone, Ralph Sampson, and Elvin Hayes.
