The Houston Texans' highly-rated passing attack has taken a major hit.

Texans quarterback Matt Schaub has a torn MCL and will likely miss at least a month if the team decides not to place him on injured reserve, multiple sources told FOXSports.com.

Schaub had an MRI Monday morning that confirmed the severity of the injury. The injury was sustained on a hit by Vikings Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen in the Texans' 28-21 loss to Minnesota.

Sage Rosenfels will take over as Houston's starting QB.

For the season, Schaub had completed almost 68 percent of his passes, throwing for over 1,700 yards with 10 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Rosenfels, meanwhile, has thrown just 62 passes this season, but has similar ratios, completing 68 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

    blergh.

assuming he misses 4 games - that'll be 5.5 more this year on top of, i believe, 5 last year, too. that's beyond worrisome.

    Schaub = Injury prone.
    :( Fixed.

I hope you prove us wrong that and show us you're NOT done, Mr. Rosenfels.

Matt, get well soon, please.

Hope sage can erase the stain of Indy and redeem himself. I don't think this loss is all that bad.

Yeah, I kind of had a feeling while watching him limp around during that 1st half yesterday. I'm not surprised by this news at all.

This will hurt, but we still have one of the better back-ups in the league. It could be worse, we could have Brad Johnson or Brooks Bollinger........or Vince Young....... ;)

Seriously, without getting into who is better, I like what Sage brings to the table. We will miss Schaub, but the season is far from lost with Sage as the starter.

Can a torn ACL heal itself 100% without surgery? Or if he were to come back in 4 or 5 weeks, would he be at risk of a serious reinjury?

Time to consider drafting a QB in the next draft. I wish Schaub can play the whole season to find out if he's our QB.

They need to draft a QB now. Sage is probably gone after this year in FA anyway.

call it bad luck, being injury prone or whatever he cannot stay on the field.

If he cannot play he cannot get better and we cannot use him.

Injury prone is like T-mac or Ahman Green who get hurt from doing what they do. Nobody has hit T-mac in the back or the shoulder or the knee.

Schaub is just snakebit. Both hits that have knocked him out involved helmets hitting where they aren't supposed to.

    Are you sure?

I thought he was signed to a three year deal in Kubiak's first year.
