When "The Exocist" came out, I was 13 and saw it at a drive in...I was scared for weeks. It gets my vote.

Yeah, I saw the exorcist for the first time when I was about 8. It scared the hell out of me, and even as an adult I won't watch it. It gets my vote as well.

Haloween I and II for me.

The piano theme still makes the hair on my arms raise up.

The Grudge is the only movie that's ever really given me problems, that girl is so goddamned creepy (the dead one, not Sarah Michelle Gellar).

I saw The Grudge and I was not impressed. The Ring was a lot scarier to me. The scene where the little girl's father kills himself in front of Naomi Watts (major babe) was shocking and chilling. That was an image that I could not (and still cannot) get out of my mind. That movie had many other scenes like that.

However, as much as I enjoyed that movie, I think Kubrick's "The Shining" is the scariest movie, mainly due to brilliant pacing and unbelievably scary soundtrack. Movies that have supernatural creatures chasing people don't really scare me. The ghost story ones do, though.

My vote would be for either Halloween or Exorcist...probably the edge goes to Halloween though.

And if The Grudge gave you problems, then check out Ju-On, that film wasn't perfect but it was way scarier than The Grudge could ever hope to be.

I would say The Shining, with The Exorcist a close second. I'm sure I'll kick myself for forgetting one.

I saw the exorcist late in high school so I didn't go the full scare value that I mightve gotten if I saw it at a younger age like others.

I did the see the Shining when I was in 4th grade and I was scared ****less. So I'll say The Shining #1 an Exorcist #2

a japanese movie called 'dark water'.
had crazy pacing and timing. and the whole movie, they showed the place constantly raining. so it was dark, gloomy sort of mood.

Yeah... I think it was "the Ring" for me, too.

I didn't know anything about it when I saw it, so it really got me. The worst part is that I watched it with my wife just before we got married, and right after I had moved out of my bachelor apartment into the place we were going to be living once we got married. So after she left I was stuck all by myself in that apartment, and I kept looking at the TV and thinking about that girl.

    Pretty creepy.

    :)
