I decided to get some rest at 6 o'clock this evening before going out tonight. So I layed down on the couch and eventually fell asleep. I had this pretty damn absurd dream about being locked in a mansion with a bunch of diaper wearing chimpanzees,a few friends, and some total strangers. But that wasn't the scariest part.

While there was a pretty intense part where I was fighting with one of the chimps, during the fight I woke up. Or at least thought I had awoken.

My apartment is pitch black, no lights, about 11 o'clock. I reluctantly open my eyes peering down at my feet propped up at the other end of the couch. That's when I see something moving around in my dining room. I didn't think much of it. I thought it could just be my eyes since I had just awoken.

I continued to lay there on the couch, allowing myself to wake up while this thing began to move around in my dining room. Then it started to slowly come toward me. As it began to get closer I could make out a very distorted image of a human, no face, no real defining features.

As it continued to move in I wanted to defend myself; get off the couch, punch it or yell out or just do something. But I felt totally immobilized. I couldn't move my arms, legs or yell out. However, my heart beat had begun to increase.

Whatever was moving around in my apartment eventually went away (faded away). The scariest part about this dream is that I think I was awake. Once the figure had disappeared, my heart beat went back to normal and I was eventually able to get off the couch. I am awake now, but I never remember awaking again after having that dream.

There were some threads a awhile back about something called sleep paralysis. I am not certain if this is what just happened, but as far as dreams go, this one felt more real than any dream I had before and was obviously the scariest.

I am in no way superstitious and neither is my bro but something similar happened to him but it didn't involve any chimps. He woke up immobilized and felt like there was something holding him down but didn't see anything. He couldn't explain it but came to the conclusion it was sleep paralysis.

I've had sleep paralysis before. The two times that I remember it happening I was sleeping on my back. I did some research and so was everyone else. SO DON'T SLEEP ON YOUR BACK. No sleep paralysis. Problem solved....unless you end up turning on your back sometime during the night.

The last time it happened to me it was really weird. As I was paralyzed (felt like something was holding me down to the bed) I could hear whispering in my ear in some weird language/tongue and a dog barking really far away. When I awoke, I no longer heard the whispering. I still barely heard the dog barking, but it was much further away than I thought.

Some believe that if you sleep on your back it exposes yourself to the demons that are around us allowing them to thrust upon you.

Never had sleep paralysis, but my most vivid dreams I always have sleeping on my back. I normally sleep on my stomach though.

Never had sleep paralysis. But if it weren't for that feeling you'd be sleepwalking and fighting off imaginary demons.

True. I guess I've only had sleep paralysis once. The first time was just a vivid dream I had while sleeping on my back.

I've had sleep paralysis at least 10x in my life (i'm 21), I haven't experienced what others have described as seeing something holding them down but I have been in the situation where my mind was conscious and my body was frozen.

It freaks the crap out of me knowing you're awake but can't move or say anything at all. Luckily everytime this has happened to me I only stayed frozen for around 5-7 seconds and than I was free from my scary prison!

I haven't had one lately but since i've had these quite a bunch already I'm probably going to have more in the future :(

So, what was the "thing" that was moving around in your apartment??? Or was THAT apart of the dream, as well?

The feeling of being immobilized is when you have sleep paralysis. I have had sleep paralysis way too many times but most of the time, I don't have any feeling of a presence of somebody else. That only happened to me once, and it was scary. VERY SCARY. I felt there was something else in the room and also I felt this weird vibration going up and down through the left side of my body from what I can remember. The worst part about all this was whenever I would break out of the paralysis and then fall back asleep, The sleep paralysis started again. It was an cycle that happened like 10 times. **** was scary!

I have had sleep paralysis once. its scary as F*** . Obviously i was sleep or something.

Hasnt happened again but i woke up with my hands behind my head and me laying on my back. I think this caused my hands to fall asleep, therefore giving me the sensation that i could not move and that must have slipped into my dreams.

Weird thing is that much like you I couldnt wake up or i kept waking up but not really waking up.

Pretty much exactly what you described.

The op hasn't posted since his post in this thread. He's still in his "dream."
