I recently scanned about 5 photos that I need to send in e-mail. I tried sending them but the files are HUMONGOUS. One was like 17000 K. I'm sure the others were about the same size. Is there anything that I can do to make the files a lot smaller?? I am using a UMAX Astra 3400 scanner. I am sending my e-mails with my hotmail account. What can i do??????

You can scan them with less resolution. I assume you saved them as bitmap files (*.bmp), if so, convert them to jpeg files (*.jpg) and set the compression so the files are smaller.

Your scanner software probably allows you to do the above, go to the "Help" tab and see. If not, most graphics software will allow you to compress jpeg files.

A couple of things. First what format did it save the files as? Also what is the image size?

File formats like .bmp tend to be rather large and in my experience many scanners are defaulted to saving as .bmp files. If they are try converting them to .jpg using a conversion program. I use Paint Shop Pro which can be downloaded as a trial from jasc.com

If the image size is very large that could also attribute to the file size problem. Find a program that will let you condense the size of the image(Paint Shop Pro does this also).

I am pretty sure photoshop will do both of the above too.
