I got an e-mail from "Paypal" telling me that a charge was placed on my account and to click in a certain place to dispute the charges if I didn't make them. I didn't click there, but did log onto my account and saw that there wasn't any transaction. Has anyone ever seen this before (I replaced the other info with "XXXXX")?

Its a scam. Don't ever click on the link. If you have suspicions, always type the URL directly and check for yourself.

if you ever need to do a transaction, go DIRECTLY through the site itself. NEVER click on a link in a email.

    ex.

    Dear John Smith,

All the scam e-mails are addressed to Dear Paypal user or something general like that

I get emails like this and I've never used Paypal. These scams are called "fishing" and what the scammer is trying to do is get you to enter your credit card info so they can steal it or other identity info. I've seen other similar scams for Amazon or for various banks, some using real bank names or made up bank names.

I get several of these a week it seems and I don't even use Paypal that much.

Don't ever click on the link... as others have said.

    Forward it to "spoof@paypal.com"

You will get a reply back from Paypal confirming it as phishing...

the really bad thing is they'll probably get some hits. one born every minute means business as usual.

great advice in this thread! never click on the link sent to yah. just like yah never take the telephone number the friendly account rep calling yah offers.

the internet may offer better opportunities for cons, but the same common sense yah use in real life is the best defense.

get any spam from Nigerian royalty seeking to redress past grievances, on your dime ... delete key work fine.
