He will never be the tough coach so many want. But while other teams go through their personality problems, the Rockets go out and play. Rudy is a leader of people, he knows what it takes to get the best out of everyone. Some would question his rotation but I think he feels an obligation to play his players, all of which have worked hard for him or I firmly believe they wouldn't be on his roster. I don't know about the rest of you but I love the chemistry I see so far. Everyone pulling for the underdog players instead of seeing them as a threat. It's clear that Rudy has taught them that it takes a TEAM to win. Go Rudy and Go Rockets!
Positive Rudy Post... Unbelievable! Actually I really do feel like the team is making great strides and playing better together every game and many will say that is the players doing and Rudy is only hindering what they could have been a long time ago, but I think it is the opposite... Rudy has managed to take a bunch of athletes and managed to get them to play as a team in a short period of time... God knows we have seen teams with great athletes never amount to much (see Portland). I see the Rockets improving every game and yes we have the horses now but I also think we have the right jockey and trainer to get the best out of our horses...
HOW ON THE EARTH DARE YOU TO SAY YAO MING IS A HORSE? THAT'S THE UTMOST DISRESPECT! Voice from the above: Panda, quit impersonating a poster on the board, everyone is born to fulfill a specific purpose.
I was listening to 610 this afternoon just before the Rudy T show, and Charlie and Rich had a good point about Rudy. They mentioned that it likely serves the Rockets well to have such stability in Rudy. Every year there are no bones about who the coach is, is he on the hot-seat, etc. There's no searching for other coaches and bad hires. Rudy is a fabulous coach and we are lucky to have him here in Houston. I tend to think he's not quite as forceful as he could be, kindof lets the players have a bit more lee-way than other coaches, but that's his style and it has served the Rockets well in the past. People all over the league aplaud Rudy for being a great coach and players like playing for him. IMO, he's doing a PERFECT job bringing along Yao Ming and Eddie Griffin, and has got a very nice offense in place now, as well as the defensive mindset to build on. IMO, we could be talking about Rudy as a COTY candidate after the All-Star break. FABULOUS post cmiller!!!
Good post. Of course, there will be an onslaught of people who will give you reasons why he should be fired - and replaced by whom? These same people will give you lame answers, as ridiculous as Scott Skiles, Dunleavy, etc... maybe, just maybe we will lure Phil Jackson away from Shaq and Kobe (we would have to wait for Ming, Griffin & Francis to be at their prime before Jackson would take this team on). Regardless, in the end, nobody has patience. Nobody can recognise that we have been rebuilding over the last 3 years, and by golly it looks like the process might have worked. We now have a good strong YOUNG team. Look around the league. To go from 2 championships in 95, continue to be an elite team for several more years, lose 3 players considered to be in the top 50 of all time, and turnaround in only 3 years is impressive. Now also consider, Rudy, more than any coach in the league is a big part of the process in terms of getting players here. He is as much responsible for assembling this team as Dawson. So, in conlcusion, if things are looking good now, with all of our key players under 25, think about how good things are going to look next year, 2 years, 3 years.... I'm getting too excited. Go Rockets. Good job Rudy!
You know, i bash Rudy all the time. But you guys are probably right. Give time. I'll give him credit for Francis and Griffin. But Ming, that's a no-brainer. Anybody would have taken him number one. Anyways, he has done a good and plus he hasn't had that much talent in the past few years. Now, is his real test. Cause we all know this team is pretty damn good. Should wait for the bashing until the end of the season. If we win less than 43 games, I'll be passed and i'm gonna pull out my club and start bashin. Thank you.
i think alot of people would disagree with you on draft night.to many people said lets trade the number 1 pick for Odom.or another veteran player.i thought Yao Ming was a nobrainer, but i think the majority disagree.atleast disagreed with you then or after 4 games.
I'm not saying I want Rudy replaced, right now he should not be on the seat. BUT there are plenty of good coaches out there. Look at the success of new coaches with previously crappy teams: Rick Carlisle- Detroit Byron Scott- New Jersey Isaiah Thomas- Indiana Doc Rivers- Orlando Nate McMillan- Seattle (they were struggling when he came in) Jim O'Brien- Boston I think the Rockets wouldn't have a problem finding a good coach if they needed to.
I'm gonna call you out on that one as well. Most people were saying Jay Williams was the best player out of the draft, and we should either draft him or trade the pick. But back to the topic at hand, I agree that we're seeing marked improvement on the court. Players spanning the entire league voice opinions to play for Rudy T. We're always in the running for top free agents, in part because players want to be on Rudy T's team. Rudy T definitely knows the inside-out game, and now with Franchise, he's also proving he can develop an outside-in game too. Rudy T's no 1 trick pony. He's one of the best in the business.
Rudy is terribly overrated. He has more talent on this team than all but about 5 other teams in the league. They should be winning.
JR, Finally! Remember this was the Rox deepest team ever. Talent should win out 75% of the time. We've had to force Rudy to implement ball movement for this team to succeed. That is just common sense. If the Rox expect Rudy to draw up a last second play to win, then we will see the Suns results throughout the year.
