Easy Lover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9xY_cPenSs "Easy Lover" is a song written by Philip Bailey, Phil Collins, and Nathan East, and accredited to both singers Bailey and Collins when released as a single. The song appeared on Bailey's solo album Chinese Wall. Collins has also performed the song in his live shows and it appears on his 1990 album Serious Hits... Live!, as well as his 1998 compilation album, ...Hits. The song was a smash hit in the UK, reaching #1 and staying there for four weeks and also reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. However, it was never released as a single in Australia due to the fact that the record companies considered it would be a commercial over-flood of Phil Collins given his then rising popularity in that country. The lighthearted video for the song was filmed in London and features Bailey travelling by helicopter to meet Collins in a television studio. The original clip was also littered with frequent voice over's frequent dropping in & out of audio volume. This (like many other clips of it's time) was of particular concern to resident VJ's wanting to use this classic as part of their repertoire thus with the use of modern technology we were able to provide them with such. The song was used as a theme song to the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985. The song also featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories as part of its soundtrack in the fictional pop radio station, Flash FM. The song was also used in the TV advertisements for the game in the United States and the United Kingdom. In 1994 it was sampled by Chris Morris for "Uzi Lover", a parody of gangsta rap (with Morris portraying its fictitious performer "Fur-Q") in an episode of The Day Today. The song was also covered by R&B/Gospel singer, Cheryl Gamble of SWV in 2001. For more information about Philip & Phil visit: http://www.philipbailey.com/ http://www.philcollins.co.uk/
“Say Say Say” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Say_Say_Say Single by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson from the album Pipes of Peace B-side "Ode to a Koala Bear" Released October 9, 1983 Recorded Summer 1983 Genre R&B/Soul Length 3:55 (Album version) 5:40 (Extended version) Label Parlophone Records Producer George Martin "Say Say Say" is a 1983 hit single for Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, produced by George Martin. It was taken from McCartney's album Pipes of Peace, and was the second successful duet by McCartney and Jackson, the first being "The Girl Is Mine". The single's six-week stay at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1983 into early 1984 was preceded by "All Night Long (All Night)" by Lionel Richie and followed by "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes. It would also be the last time that Paul McCartney would have a number one single in the U.S.. It is listed at #35 on Billboard's All Time Top 100. The music video featured McCartney's wife Linda McCartney and Jackson's sister La Toya, and was filmed at the Union Hotel and Victorian Mansion in Los Alamos, California. It was directed by Bob Giraldi and chronicled a touring group of con artists, swindling the "Mac and Jack Wonder Potion" that gave superhuman strength. They also double as a vaudville act, but are almost caught. They escape by creating a fire evacuation and drive off into the sunset. The historic effect of the video is momentarily diminished at the end, when the vaudeville actors evacuate the theater and walk past what is clearly a modern building with large tinted windows before getting in their 1930's-era truck.
I don't see your vote on the poll. The drums and guitar on Easy Lover are spectacular. The Say Say Say video is much better though.
Gotta go with Say, Say, Say, even though Easy Lover seems to get more air play. I can't remember the last time I heard Say, Say, Say on the radio. It was Michael Jackson at or near his peak. He was in high demand.
Song wise, easy lover is the better one. MTV wise, not even close. Say say say is kinda corny to me. I think easy lover stood under the test of time.
Easy Love has a really good groove. And perhaps I'm taking Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's history into consideration, since MJ outbid Paul on that Beatle's catalogue.
This thread was giving me crazy déjà vu, I knew we had this duscussion before. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=152907&highlight=easy+lover
i know some people don't like the fusion of pop and r&b, but this was done way way before justin timberlake and the backsteet boys. its pioneering and cutting edge music that changed the world.
WRONG!! It's pop music by some of it's famous names. Now if you wanted to talk about pioneering and cutting edge r&b and pop, you would have had a poll between these two: Dirty Mind is Prince's take on New Wave IMO and him basically creating a new type of funk. Remain in Light is the Talking Heads take on R&B. It's not as accessible as Prince but it does grow on you.
