What pisses me off so much is that Speilberg and Lucas did not go with Darabont's script. That was a really good Indy story. It still focused on Aliens, but in a much better way. There was no Mutt and it instead focused on Indy and Marion. Such a better film it would have been. Oh well.
If they'da released Indy 4 around 2000-2001 when it was originally rumored in the planning stages it'da been an acceptable continuation, due to sheer anticipation and need for an Indy fix. Took too long to materialize. Now Cheech and Chong reuniting telling outdated weed jokes is better received than Ford putting the Indy hat back on.
what about standing up in convertibles swordfighting while driving through the jungle at 60 mph? I did think that Ford pulled off Indy again and they did a good job with aging the character, but that's where it ends. It made it even worse...because you know that with a great script (as opposed to a terrible one) and no George Lucas it could have been great.
They have a plot, apparently: Indy and the Bermuda Triangle link An award winning New Zealand news site called Stuff has a scoop about the next INDIANA JONES adventure. While the info below can't be confirmed at this time, it's important to remember that...in the past...many scoops of this nature (from far more unlikely sources) have proven to be 100% accurate. So, don't take this to the bank quite yet...but nor should you dismiss it until we've received some sort of official denial about the following. As such, note that there are POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD!! Indiana Jones 5 will begin shooting next year, and much of the plot line will be centered around the Bermuda Triangle, an area over the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft are said to have disappeared. "George (Lucas) and Steven (Spielberg) have been working on a script and it's almost there," a source explained. "Harrison is on stand-by for filming next year. This looks like being an emotional and exciting conclusion to the franchise, with Indy facing his biggest challenge yet." [EDIT] "Shia LaBeouf has a central role again as Indy's son but this will be a blockbuster made in the old fashioned way rather than the CGI efforts of the last movie," the source added. ...says Stuff HERE. A big thanks to Warren for pointing us towards the news - it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. If this happens, I'm not sure what to think about The Bermuda Triangle being involved, although I suspect the story wouldn't hinge on The Triangle itself as much as the oddness/possibilities within it. For a brief moment, I thought KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL was gonna zap Indy & Co. to another dimension during its finale (it felt like they were setting up that possibility). Perhaps something along those lines might happen here? By the way, I'm gonna take this moment to once again steer you towards a very interesting book abouit the making of the four INDY films to date: THE COMPLETE MAKING OF INDIANA JONES by J.W. Rinzler (available HERE). Rinzler's the same dude who brought us the even more amazing MAKING OF STAR WARS (HERE) and will soon be giving THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK the same treatment. If you haven't ever taken a look at these books and you Geek for these movies, consider doing so. They're nice. Hope someone wakes up Harrison this time...
By the time this one comes out, they'll need twice as many server farms to photochop Harrison Ford's wrinkly face.
ugh...again...the last one was horrible...Shia was even worse than that, and yes, it's possible to be worse than horrible... on a side note, maybe Indy will be able to incorporate the walker by the time they start filiming...
I refused to watch indy 4 and pollute my experience with the series a la star wars. Therefore, I win. Anything Lucas touches nowadays is trash. Utter garbage.
I'm not understanding hollywood's resistance to rebooting this franchise. Why continue it when you'll make a lot more money remaking Raiders of the Lost Ark with say.. timothy olyphant???
I still believe Spielberg can make it right... Never forget how much ass "Temple Of Doom" sucked, before they redeemed themselves with "The Last Crusade"... George Lucas, STAY THE F AWAY!!!
A Raiders remake would be sacrilege. Of course, I still wouldn't put it past them. And I can't say I get all of the Temple of Doom hate. While it was the weakest of the original three, I still think it's pretty good. And I've never heard anyone speak ill of The Last Crusade until this thread. And Shia le Butt-buddy damn near Jar-Jar'd the whole franchise. Crystal Skull was just terrible. He was tolerable in some teen summer flick I saw about a serial killer with a hot neighbor he had to save with imo the same level of tolerability in the first Transformers movie. But Crystal Skull was the turning point for me when I realized that Hollywood would NOT leave me alone about this guy, and I haven't been able to stand him ever since.
The only acceptable scene for Shia will be a flashback showing how his character was eaten by a shark. .
Indy 4 by itself wouldn't have been a bad movie...average maybe, but to have brought it into the Indiana Jones universe just made it look tragically horrible. I honestly think if they want to continue with this franchise, they need to reboot it with a prequel ala Young Indiana Jones style and have a fresh (i.e. YOUNG) actor taking the throne for Dr. Jones. Harrison Ford is moving slower than molasses these days.
Emile Hirsch... in fact, if they could just replace shia with emile, that would be a definite upgrade to 5.
Shoot, just any young actor would be better than seeing Father Time run around, jumping over crates and hurting himself. I'd even settle for Robert Pattinson.
Indiana Jones 5 Producer Frank Marshall has shot down the recent "Indiana Jones 5" talk, posting a comment on his Twitter account saying "The rumor about Indy 5 is completely false. Nothing has changed, we are not shooting next year and still in the research phase." http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/17457/indy-5-transformers-3-les-grossman-talk
