Read about this on the chron.com website and thought to pass on the information to our CFans brothers and sisters...I found i had some cash i was able to recover...maybe yall can as well... http://fuelfix.com/blog/2013/08/06/is-the-state-holding-your-oil-and-gas-royalties/?cmpid=hpts and here is the state website if you want to search if you have any unclaimed property: http://www.window.state.tx.us/up/
The state of Texas is holding $3 billion in unclaimed property, including $461.1 million in unclaimed oil and gas royalties — money that’s reported to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and turned over to the state by companies when they can’t find mineral owners. In addition to the cash from oil and gas production, one in four Texans has long-lost money sitting in abandoned bank accounts, uncashed checks, utility refunds and other forgotten places. The money sitting around in the state’s sock drawer from oil and gas royalties alone is enough to buy a six-pack of Shiner Bock, a half-gallon of Bluebell Ice Cream and breakfast tacos for everyone in Texas ($17.73 for all 26 million of us). And with drilling and oil production booming once again across much of Texas, and with shale drilling technology making it possible to drill in previously unprofitable regions, the amount of unclaimed money is growing. Is some of it yours? You can visit the comptroller’s website (claimittexas.org) and search for unclaimed property of all sorts (not just royalties paid on oil and gas properties). Or you can call the state at 800-654-3463 and someone will help you look up your name or a relative’s name by phone.
I have a one listed but it from a property that I rented at, it shows my name and info and has to do with a water bill payments I believe. It is only 66 dollars, but in the drop box to list relationship to property owner the options arent clear.. I am the owner I have power of attorney Legal Heir of property I am the Executor I am the Trustee (I think this is the only one I could pick really) I am the Parent claiming for a minor Basically, I wouldn't mind having the extra cash, I just don't know if I can pick one with out somehow having the chance of getting in trouble...
I'm pretty sure "owner" in this situation means that you own the unclaimed property (the money). So choose the first option.
If you are the person that is listed...You will be asked to submit a new form/method of contact...even though the address might be incorrect. They will ask for personal information like address, ssn etc... So the only reason you'd get in trouble is if you are falsely collecting the unclaimed assets... So dont do things that can get you arrested...claim what is yours and not somebody else's stuff.
